Please note, this page relates to the original Acton Miniature Railway. from its opening in 2005, till it was suspended in December 2017 on the orders of the London Transport Museum management.

The original AMR was run using authentic LU signalling and included an original lever frame from Holborn Station. This authentic, interlocked and fail-safe signalling system has unfortunately now been dismantled.

If you have any queries regarding to the current use of the remaining track bed (2018 onwards) please contact the London Transport Museum directly.

If you would like to know more about the original Acton Miniature Railway, including photos and details of the Westinghouse style 'N' lever frame, the various signals and the vast number of relays used to control it, please visit www.ActonMiniatureRailway.co.uk

We regret to advise that the Acton Miniature Railway (AMR) will NOT be running at the London Transport Museum Depot Acton Depot Open Weekend: Capital Design (21-22 April 2018).

This is further to the decision to suspend operations, taken by the London Transport Museum management in December 2017.

We would like to thank all of our 30,000+ passengers over the past 12 years for riding with us and making it such a fun railway to operate.

Unfortunately we do not know if/when the AMR will reopen.
Please direct any future enquiries to the London Transport Museum.

FURTHER INFORMATION

All activity on the AMR (previously owned/financed by the London Transport Museum Friends) was suspended in December 2017 on the orders of the London Transport Museum senior management.

The AMR volunteers have not been allowed to perform any maintenance since our November work session.
The track is not in running condition due to outstanding scheduled repairs (primarily fixing damage caused by others).
There may also be additional damage caused during the winter, as work to repair and weatherproof the signal cabin roof was in progress at the time of suspension, so could not be finished.

The AMR no longer has a working signalling system, essential for a multiple bi-directional track layout with a partial steep gradient. With a number of experienced volunteers being banned or resigning, items which were on loan to the AMR to enable the authentic signalling system to function (in addition to a large amount of other equipment) have now been reclaimed by their owners to protect them from damage.

More information can be found on our previous website http://www.actonminiaturerailway.co.uk/

PERSONAL MESSAGE

It has been a pleasure to have been part of such a close knit group of volunteers for over 7 years, providing a safe service which adhered to authentic railway rules/principles.
I would also like to personally thank all our passengers and supporters who have enjoyed the railway with us and made all the hard work worth it.

Regards

Andrea, AMR
