We are a creative platform for emerging local talent which bridges the gap between TfL and the community. Employed by London Underground our day time jobs are Duty Manager, Customer Service Assistant and Station Supervisor - we are also practicing artists. Our goal is to uncover a body of local artists and community groups united by common interests and concerns for public awareness and creative ambition. Our mission is to discover untapped talent from the local community using art as a medium of communication and feeding a wider dialogue to open up and action new ideas. We will offer support, advice and gallery preparation assistance free of charge to present projects by local people and encourage them to maximise the potential of the space to explore their creative ideas. Having a vibrant space right outside an underground station that is run by its staff is an extension of the travelling customers journey which can now be their 'final destination' rather than the station itself. You are no longer just getting from A to B you are going from A to Fill the Gap looking forward to seeing what London Underground have got on offer today apart from engineering works posters for the weekend and of course 'A good service on all lines'. From only two shows so far a real buzz has been created as the space has been a revelation to local people who are genuinely excited about it taking a permanent stand on behalf of the Leytonstone community. Generating a feeling of belonging to a growing neighbourhood of innovative people this is a unique space, that will improve the ambience and atmosphere of the underground journey experience as well as nearby cafes and shops. Soon every underground station will want its own personal gallery. By exhibiting at Fill the Gap you will help enrich the area with its positive activity and contribute to its general good by offering a welcoming space run by friendly people giving themselves to the community via your skill, talent and creativity. Don't just be a traveller- become a participator/contributor/interactor who generates ideas and inspires others. The gallery is currently seeking to promote a changing programme of diverse exhibitions for 2014. For further information- email: [email protected] or phone: 07984 473516

Opening tomorrow here!

Shapes and things features experimentation with fundamental aspects of form and the notions of object-hood. Moving from the definition of shape- as something external, a contour or an outline of someone or something- to the active pursuit of the creation of form, the five artists each broach their subjects with a similarly intense focus.

In the exhibition there is equally a consideration of the common place, the mundane, and a tendency to toy with infinitesimal shifts in dimension. From a thorough exploration of the deliberate flatness of a painted surface, to the interplay between figurative painted works and sculptures, many concepts of form are methodically investigated. Despite an almost habitual consideration of the object and shape there is a purposeful step away from the traditional approach. Self-made pigment is rendered in such a way as to imply instantaneity, and steel, which is both a substantial support and something that merges with the wall behind it, erases the idea of painting as object. Contrastingly, wooden reliefs are a direct conflict with ideas of flatness, and what are recognised as usually harmless implements begin to dominate with their mutated proportions. shapes and things includes painting, drawing and sculpture from five very distinct positions.

Participants: Lyndsey Gilmour, Ana Milenkovic, Matt Morris, Sophie Ormerod and Neil Sharp.

23rd of April – 7pm – Private View

Exhibition runs from 24th of April to the 1st of May

We are very pleased to announce the 'soft launch' of Fill The Gap Gallery with a show starting next week! As part of the Leytonstone Arts Trail 2014 which runs from the 4th -13th July, Creative Bloc will be at the gallery with their exciting multimedia show entitled ‘Set in Stone’.

This exhibition follows their well attended and successful debut show ‘Hibernacula’ also shown in Fill The Gap Gallery, where Creative Bloc attracted some great publicity from the local press and brought in a crowd of art loving locals to this well located spot, many of whom commented on the great use of this space. For the ‘Set in Stone’ show, Creative Bloc will be presenting a variety of work including photography, printing, drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and even a sound installation. The arts trail will give Creative Bloc and Fill The Gap Gallery a chance to yet again show what a fantastic addition they are to Leytonstone’s ever expanding art scene by encouraging the whole community to enjoy high quality, thought-provoking work in this great venue and to meet and talk to some of the artists involved.

The Set In Stone show opens Friday 4th July 6-9pm and then weekends 11am -5pm and weekdays 6pm-8pm, closing on Sunday 13th July at 5pm.
