Top Floor

Top Floor Completed Project - Closed Dec 2011 / Creative Arts Space in Hoxton Square. London's most exclusive East-End Art hangout. The art world. The creative act.

TOP FLOOR, HOXTON SQUARE, dubbed ‘the gallery you don’t want to leave’, is London’s most irreverent arts space. Hidden in a secret location overlooking Hoxton Square once inside it isn’t clear where the art begins and where it ends, from beautiful objects to stimulating conversation pieces the gallery shows the world as it is, complex. Emotional and logical, beautiful and ugly; it is more then a r

eflection of the world out there; it represents what the world could be. Can there be a third way for the art world? As the wheels turn, we can expect nothing but change. To gather together in a place is a meeting of bodies and minds. We wish to discuss and we wish to probe and then proceed. The economy. The future. The concept. All up for grabs it seems. In this unique place, for a short time only will be the opportunity for each to take a "Step out of the Art World and into the Light"

Our private entry art gallery is host to a number of constantly turning creative exhibitions, productive interactions and artists making unbound. Founder, Artist Eleanor Lindsay-Fynn:

‘I set up Top Floor because I was tired of trekking around one white walled space after another, looking at work that failed to stimulate anything but a currency exchange. I wanted to create a place that engaged people on a visceral and intellectual level. Top Floor is an artist activator. Occasionally someone will come to me all excited; their eyes lit up....“Thank you!".....” They won’t necessarily be able to articulate why they feel that, and I know that its not because it’s the best exhibition they have ever seen, but what has happened is the space has transformed them. It has the capacity to lift us out of auto-pilot mode, and become the creator making the whole project worth while.’

Gallery Director, Andrew Hancock,

"For me, the space is a conceptual project in itself,
and it operates on many overlapping levels. Why it has attracted such diverse and enthusiastic attention
from individuals usually divided in this great city, must
be a testament to the varied contributors who have made
such great efforts in constructing the project. For those thus far involved, it has given a new capacity
to their practices, and I am amazed witnessing the relationships
which have blossomed thanks to the gallery being in existence. The project seems to have taken on a life of its own and
within a very short time, a consensus to cooperate has taken real shape! It seems promising, that for the lifespan of this current project, we can achieve even greater things." The Gallery will be open from Wednesday 23rd Nov - Sunday 27th
