Royal Society of Printmakers The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers is the UK's premier printmaking organisation. Established in 1880.

Its home is Bankside Gallery, on the Thames Riverside, next door to Tate Modern. The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) was founded as the Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers in 1880. It was established to counter the Royal Academy’s then refusal to recognise printmaking as a creative rather than a merely reproductive art. All Members are elected on merit in a tradition reaching back over a hundred years. New Members are elected by the Council of the Society based on the quality of their work alone. Eminent past members include Graham Sutherland, Stanley William Hayter, Edward Bawden, Julian Trevelyan and Michael Rothenstein.

✨ THE RE ANNUAL ELECTIONS ARE COMING! ✨

Applications for the Royal Society of Printmakers’ 2027 election of Associate Members will be opening soon!

The RE has championed original printmaking since 1880, bringing together artists working across a diverse range of printmaking practices, including digital printmaking. We are looking for artists who demonstrate individuality, accomplishment and a real commitment to printmaking.

🎨 What does becoming an Associate Member offer?

• The opportunity to regularly exhibit with the RE
• Representation on the RE and Bankside Gallery websites
• Opportunities including residencies and art fairs.
• Join an established and diverse group of members.

Install day for this year's edition of our printmaking exhibition 'Small But Mighty'!

The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday 17 September at 11am when you can see the full display of over 200 works.

CALLING ALL PRINTMAKERS!

The RE’s International Original Print Exhibition is currently open for entries. It’s now one month until the deadline, 31 August (11:59pm UK time).

Enter up to 6 works online for your chance to be a part of this highly popular exhibition held in November.

All printmaking techniques are eligible, and we are open to printmaking in all its forms – 3D printmaking works, artists books or printmaking on ceramics, just as examples … surprise us!

It's a privilege to showcase the work of our members on a global stage at such a distinguished event, joining an inspiring international community of artists and collectors in celebrating the richness and diversity of contemporary printmaking.
The fair continues till 21st June at the Guardian Print Centre, Beijing.
