So excited to start revealing this years art trail artists one by one 💥

1 May - first 2024 Artist revealed!
On instagram account 💥

The Kensington + Chelsea Art Week Public Art Trail is seen by one million visitors each week across many iconic locations across Kensington + Chelsea.

Every year, artists are invited to participate in an Open Call by aligning their proposals with the annual festival theme (to be revealed on October 17th) where submissions are encouraged to:

+ Pay homage to the area’s rich historical and artistic heritage, encompassing both ancient and modern influences.
+ Foster active engagement with the audience.
Evoke the festive and celebratory atmosphere of the event.
+ Maintain a positive, non-discriminatory, and non-political stance.
+ Promote inclusion and celebrate innovation and the possibility of making a positive impact on society.

We welcome artists at various stages of their professional careers; from local to national talents and those who have never previously exhibited their work in public. The Kensington + Chelsea Art Week expert team provides comprehensive support, covering installation, public liability, insurance, engineering approvals, safety inspections, council permissions, and associated expenses related to delivery, installation, display, publicity, and the secure return of artworks to the artist’s studio.

The final selection of participating artworks is curated by a rotating, esteemed Art Committee, ensuring fresh perspectives and diversity in the selections. For information on previous Art Committee members, please refer to our archives.

Stay tuned for the unveiling of this year’s selected artists HERE, daily from 1 May 💜💜💜💜

Artist collaborates with architect and then you get this..

👉 Reminiscent of the crystalline basalt columns commonly found in Iceland, the geometric facades of Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre were based on a modular, space-filling structure called the quasi brick. Originally developed by geometer and mathematician Einar Thorsteinn in the 1980s, following fifteen years of research into the topic, the quasi brick is a twelve-sided polyhedron consisting of rhomboidal and hexagonal faces.

In 2002, Olafur and Einar began investigating the potential for using the quasi brick in architecture. When the modules are stacked, they leave no gaps between them, so they can be used to build walls and structural elements. The combination of regularity and irregularity in the modules lends the facades a chaotic, unpredictable quality that could not be achieved through stacking cubes. As a result, the facades for Harpa are both aesthetically and functionally integral to the building.
Only the main south facades of Harpa employ the three-dimensional quasi bricks; the irregular geometric patterns of the west, north, and east facades were derived from a two-dimensional sectional cut through the three-dimensional bricks.
The quasi brick modules incorporate panes of colour-effect filter glass, which appear to be different colours according to how the light hits them; the building shimmers, reacting to the weather, time of year or day, and the position and movements of viewers.
Olafur and his studio designed the facades of Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre in collaboration with Henning Larsen Architects.

This new building in Southwark along with ’s Cloud house in Hampstead are returning our faith in that London is creative in its residential builds! And not totally falling behind our European counterparts (esp Spain) where they have a much more fun approach to new private residential builds.

In the pictures:

have started the construction detail design for The Cloud House!

So in principle the main superstructure and waterproof layer is to be built off-site. It will be delivered to site and assembled in six weeks. Another team will then build the interior and exterior.
The drawings show how we intend to build the green barrel vaulted roof with perforated metal (because we want it to be porous) which is fixed onto a metal frame and then to the structural layer. More details to follow…

Spotlight on

⚡️Flashback no.18⚡️In 2007 Wild was approached by an art consultant to come up with a proposal for a commission for the lobby of a bank in the city called Schroders

“I came up with System no.20. Made from tubular satin polished stainless steel, it referenced architectural detailing around the building as well as feeling like an oversized executive toy. It was really complicated and stressful to make. The last image is of the tool that saved my 🥓 bacon on the project: the pipe polisher!”

We look forward to welcoming Julian Wild to cohort of leading locally active sculptors, a member of and much more, further announcements to come soon.

How to do it right - benchmarking - what works in cities. Greenwich is doing it all very well: Museums, markets, walking, accessible locations, great transport connections, lots of greenery and parks, low car usage, kid-friendly restaurants + places of interest, supports local economy, innovation, the arts, education, heritage and history. Wow. We got it right in Greenwich. Well done London.

While New York City’s subway primarily functions as the main source of transportation — and often frustration — for millions of riders every day, the public transit system also hosts an extensive public art collection.

From mosaics to sculptures to an old-school animation, reporters Maya Pontone and Elaine Velie hunted down some of the most interesting art installations that the subway has to offer.

Invest in NASA original photography and own a piece of history! 🚀

We have a small selection of rare original photographs taken by the astronauts during the first moon landings starting from 1960’s. Produced and distributed by NASA all our photographs have the original issue numbers stamped in red on the front, with the more rare ones including the Press Releases on the back.

We have a very small collection and are releasing them for sale slowly.
