A nostalgic journey through 200 years of consumer culture
Our collection takes visitors on a nostalgic journey through 200 years of social change, culture and lifestyle. It is an exciting new way of looking at history through the things that generations of families have thrown away. It’s a journey back through the memories of your childhood, all brought back to life again by our Time Tunnel – a fascinating insight into how we have lived since Victorian times.

The music magazine would appear to be around still, but in reality, many people’s current music knowledge comes from article rankings such as “Top 15 songs to Add to Your Morning Commute Playlist”. It is a slight exaggeration, but printed music magazines are few and far between nowadays. Music journalism, which became popular in the 1960s, had a heyday in the 90s and early 2000s. There were magazines for every genre and sub-genre of music. New magazines like improvisational music (Relix) existed alongside the old greats such as NME (New Musical Express) and The Wire.
Come and explore a whole collection of music magazines from the 60s onwards in our Time Tunnel. Look out for all your classic favourites - and maybe rediscover some forgotten ones too!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tripadvisor review - "I really enjoyed the museum and arrived early on in the morning so not too busy. The audio clips helped to recreate each era and it was fascinating to see how some brands had hardly changed their packaging at all over the years"

Jacksons of Piccadilly was a London tea house, tea wholesaler and department store founded by Robert Jackson in 1700. The company claims (although this is contested) to have invented the "original" recipe for Earl Grey tea. Grey gave the recipe to Robert Jackson & Co. partner George Charlton in 1830. Twinings acquired Jacksons of Piccadilly in the 1990s, who continue to produce six tea varieties under the brand name.
