Sort & Survive

Sort & Survive SORT & SURVIVE LTD is a museum and heritage consultancy providing both advisory and hands-on services to institutions and private collections. Sue Kirby

We specialise in collections management and interpretation. Sort & Survive gives advice, guidance and hands-on help to individuals or organisations who need or want to utilise, sell or dispose of prized private possessions such as artworks, artefacts, curios, furniture or family or business archives. Clients include those undergoing changes in their lives or domestic circumstances. Many are moving

house or looking at retirement accommodation. Sort & Survive helps find appropriate new homes for their possessions including museums, galleries and archives or advises on cataloging and conservation, possible sale, disposal or efficient storage. I am a highly experienced Museum Curator and Manager with over thirty years experience, the Diploma of the Museums Association and a Masters degree in Museum and Gallery Management. I have lived and worked in London for 17 years and have built up a network of useful contacts in the sector plus expertise regarding cataloguing, care and conservation of collections, storage of exhibits under appropriate conditions and setting up of displays and exhibitions. I have helped several relatives clear their homes including large libraries of books, historical artefacts, clothing and furniture, artworks and portraits. I have assisted an elderly woman in Hampstead sell some antique furniture and advised a sculptor’s widow on the possibilities for her late husband’s artworks and worked for an artist’s agent based in Chelsea. I have lived in NW London for 15 years and am familiar with both local and London-wide museums, galleries, heritage-related organisations and relevant charities and businesses.

Honoured to attend this impressive showcase for the Jack Petchey Foundation. For the past two years I have worked with Trudy Kilcullen, Special Projects Officer at JLF and archivist Katy Hodges on a project to ensure that their archive and small collection is cataloged and fully accessible. Great to recognise both some of the early photographs of Sir Jack's businesses and images from JLF's first 25 years utilised in presentations last night.

It was a wonderful and very moving memorial event for Sir Jack Petchey CBE (1925 - 2024). The talent on display was awe-inspiring: energetic dancing and inspiring choreography, humorous sketches, music from the YOU London Uniform Band and Newham Music Trust Choir, pitches for support of three charities chosen by individual school classes, audio visual presentations showing many other activities and JLP partners in action. There was even a table tennis demonstration live on stage... A celebration of a life well lived, a vision realised and a living legacy.
