This East African (Makonde style) hand-carved wood sculpture depicts a family scene featuring four figures—two men and two women, including one female resting gently on the ground.
The interwoven poses reflect unity, strength, and community. Paired with hand-carved decorative masks and lush greenery, it creates a grounded, meaningful focal point for the space. ✨

THE LION KING EXHIBITION – WIMBLEDON QUARTER
📍 A stunning display of African-inspired costume and creativity.
These beautiful installations draw deeply from African tribal art — the patterns, the beadwork, the raffia, the geometry, the spiritual presence of the ancestors.
Yet, in contrast to the visionary works of Kerry James Marshall, who celebrates the divine darkness of Black skin, these figures — though dressed in Africa’s spirit — are not Black Africans.
🎭 It’s a striking reminder of how Africa’s essence continues to shape the world’s imagination, even as the African body itself is often erased from the centre of the story.
🪶 True African art is more than costume or pattern — it carries life force, identity, and ancestral power.
Let’s continue to honour and represent the real faces behind the inspiration.

Kerry James Marshall – The Histories | Royal Academy of Arts, London 🖤
A truly powerful exhibition celebrating Black presence, pride, and artistry on a monumental scale.
Many of the paintings span over 20 feet of canvas, depicting Black people in all their strength, grace, and beauty — an empowering sight that redefines how we see ourselves in the story of art.
Kerry James Marshall has brought to us what can only be described as “the Darkness Divine” — a vision where deep, radiant Blackness becomes the very light of truth, history, and creativity.
Standing before these works, one feels the weight and wonder of centuries reclaimed — our image restored to its rightful majesty.
A must-see for lovers of African, Diaspora, and contemporary art.
