We have had a special arrival from the North Pole! Four mischievous elves have come to cause trouble in Fentons' Gardens. Unfortunately, Santa forgot to name one of the elves and he is sad. Carol, Holly and Nicholas want to help their pal choose a name but they need your suggestions, please comment on this post for a possible name for our last elf!”

The traditions and customs of a 1920s Christmas are recognisable as the celebrations we enjoy today, from festive food, to stockings and gift giving. Christmas trees were now a firmly established decoration, complete with electric lights, tinsel, beads, lametta, and glass baubles. These glass baubles were expensive, as they were still hand blown, often in Germany, and it was not until later in the 1930s that a machine was invented and patented for mass producing glass decorations. Homemade Christmas cards were popular, and as in earlier times, decorations were not put up until Christmas Eve. Come and see our 1920s - 1930s Christmas rooms before we close on the 22nd of December!

In Victorian times it was common for people celebrating Christmas to decorate their tree with paper, glass and fruit decorations and candles (yes real candles!). We've decided to use LED candles in our Victorian Christmas room. Come and see what else the Victorians did to celebrate Christmas. Lots of the traditions we still have started under the reign of Queen Victoria!

Interesting visit to historical house and Gardens
Exploring the gardens at Fenton House!
Our plan for 2018 is to take every Old English Village back to how they would have looked in the post war period of the 1950's by simply reintroducing our classic black and white painted cast metal or seasoned hardwood finger post signs. We supply many conservation groups with spare parts to make their existing signs complete, as we have a massive collection of signs from the 1930's roadside heritage of the golden age England, of all of our yesterdays. Please Like, Share & Follow our Finger Post Signs Page: https://www.facebook.com/oldfingerpostsigns/
very disappointed, travelled from Aust to see Fenton House. Closed, it was a Wed, when all promo says it is open, no eplanation at rpoperty for closure. Not a good way Nat trust to do for this to members or the pubic. Not happy Jan.
