A Pair of 19th Century Brighton Pavilion Bamboo Armchairs.

H: 30 inches (76 cm)
W: 22 inches (56 cm)
D: 20 inches (51 cm)

Modelled in the Chinese taste, with intricately decorated panels and canework seats.
This pair of chairs, although made at the end of the nineteenth century, closely resemble the suite of bamboo furniture made for the Prince Regent at Brighton Pavilion. The form can be traced back to the horseshoe chair made for centuries in China.

A Late 18th Century Painted & Parcel Gilded Console Table, c. 1770 Northern Italy.

This table clearly shows the transition from the frivolous forms and ornament of the rococo period into neo-classicism. The structured frieze and defined foliate carving to the legs look to the emerging rigid design of Louis XVI furniture; yet the central ribbon shows a charming relapse into the rocaille.
