Join us for our upcoming Panel Discussion: Possessions, Bodies and Land in the Arctic ✨

📅 Saturday, 27th June 2026
⏰ 2 PM - 4 PM

Possessions, bodies and land in the Arctic: Exploring the impacts of climate change on Inuit communities, as well as the sensitivities and challenges of showing work from the circumpolar region in the UK.

With Laakkuluk Williamson , Ros Gray , Rose Taylor .northamerica, Taqralik Partridge and moderated by Kirsty Ogg .

This panel discussion is on occasion of Laakkuluk Williamson’s solo show, Nuliamnik Neqilik, at Mimosa House.

Laakkuluk Williamson is an award-winning Greenlandic-Canadian Inuk artist whose practice spans performance, lens-based media, sculpture and installation.

For her first ever solo show, Nuliaminik Neqilik brings together works that explore timely issues around access to and control over indigenous belongings, bodies and territories in the circumpolar region.

It has involved significant international institutional partnerships including a loan from the National Gallery of Canada and the British Museum has facilitated access to some of the Inuit belongings currently held in their collection, reinterpretations of which also form part of the exhibition.

Our current exhibition’s title “Nuliaminik Neqilik - The Flesh of Wives” and central piece of work – a mixed media installation Nuliaminik Neqilik – comes from a Greenlandic story of Igimaarasussuaq, a cannibal who ate the flesh of his wives, and the revenge of his last wife Masaannaaq, who grew to an immense size.

In this new work, Laakkuluk champions the voice of Masaannaaq as an emancipated protagonist.

Colonialism, patriarchy, capitalism and racism subjugate, dehumanise and exclude racialised women. In Nuliaminik Neqilik, Laakkuluk focuses on corpulence, body image and strength as a way to own space.

Open until 7 June 2026, Nuliaminik Neqilik: The Flesh of Wives, is a solo exhibition of works by Laakkuluk Williamson , and curated by Taqralik Partridge .

⏰ We are open 12-6pm, Wednesday to Saturday!

Mimosa House remains committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community across all our programming and facilities. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Last week, The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) released new guidance on single-sex services and facilities.

For many LGBTQ+ people, and in particular those who are trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming, this feels like a difficult and worrying moment, especially at a time when so many people are already struggling to access spaces that feel safe, welcoming and inclusive.

Trans+ people make up less than 1% of the UK population, yet public debate continues to focus heavily on limiting access, safety and visibility for an already vulnerable community.

According to a YouGov poll commissioned by the Good Law Project, 84% of respondents said Britain feels “fairly unsafe” or “very unsafe” for trans people.

It’s important to remember, even with this new guidance that:
• Venues are not legally required to have gendered facilities - fully gender-neutral spaces are still an option, as we have at Mimosa House.
• Gender reassignment rightfully remains a protected characteristic under the law.
• Venues are not required to police people’s gender - and no one should face harassment or intimidation when accessing facilities.

The final event for our previous exhibition, ‘A Formula for How to Find Love’ by , we hosted a day-long event titled ‘If LOVE had Senses…’ - curated by Nishi Chodimella , Norah Tsai , Reaia Parkes in partnership with Mimosa House and Goldsmiths MFA Curating!

Thank you for these images of the event.

It was a day of embodied encounters consisting of a workshop, interactive soundscape performance, and participatory screening. Responding to Victoria Cantons’ autobiographical ruminations on selfhood and expressions of emotion through language, this public programme moved from the tactile to the sonic to the somatic. The day invited participants to rediscover personal narrative not as exposure, but as connection.

Each act asked “what if LOVE could touch? What if it could speak? What if it could move?”.

We are profoundly shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of acclaimed Cree-Mennonite cellist and composer Cris Derksen, at just 45 years old.

A powerful advocate for Indigenous artists in classical music, Cris was a longterm collaborator of Laakkuluk Williamson, sharing the music for the new moving image work Nuliaminik Neqalik, currently on display at Mimosa House. Our thoughts are with Cris’s wife, Bobby, and all those touched by this tragic loss, especially our dear friends Laakkuluk and Taqralik .

This photographic work, ‘White Liar and the Known Shore: Frobisher and the Queen’, 2021, is presented in our second floor Mezzanine Gallery.

Sir Martin Frobisher was a liar, a thief, and a murderer who had the ear of Queen Elizabeth I promising her riches from so-called “Meta Incognita”. He was looking for the Northwest passage, but got lost in the region of Tasiujaqjuaq, outside of Iqaluit, on Baffin Island.

Frobisher filled two ships with what he thought was precious gold, to give to the Queen, only to find that he had transported tonnes of fool’s gold across the Atlantic. At the same time as this absurdity, Frobisher stole an Inuit family who, upon arrival in England, promptly perished of European diseases. Fast-forward a couple hundred years to WWII, when the American army established a base in the same area and named it after the fool Frobisher (Frobisher Bay).

These two colonial blips in the naming and knowing of this region still affect our socio-economic status as Inuit today, and are symbols of the racist and oppression that we fight on a daily basis.

‘Nuliaminik Neqilik: The Flesh of Wives’, is a solo exhibition by Laakkuluk Williamson , curated by Taqralik Partridge .

Open until 27th June 2026.
