Damien Hirst’s celebrated Spin Paintings are created by pouring household gloss paint onto a spinning canvas, allowing chance, movement and the physical properties of the paint to determine the final composition. Influenced by artists such as Jackson Po***ck and the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, Hirst removes his own hand from the creative process, allowing mechanical motion to take over.

Pictured here is ‘Beautiful I Don’t Want to be a Dead Artist Painting’, 2005. Available at Andipa.

We’re entering the final days of Peter Burke’s ‘Flights’ presentation, which has been extended through Tuesday 25 August on the lower-ground level. Bringing together sculpture, drawing and collage, the presentation explores the architectural symbolism of the staircase, transforming familiar structures into poetic and contemplative forms.

‘Flights’ coincides with ‘Folly’ exhibition, curated by Burke, currently on view at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, until 30 August.

BBC News recently reported that Banksy’s London works are costing UK taxpayers significant sums, with new figures revealing the significant public cost of maintaining, securing and removing three recent works.

“The works are a reminder of Banksy’s continuing influence more than three decades after he first became known in Bristol, where surviving murals remain among the city’s best-known tourist attractions”. BBC News

From the monumental mural at the Royal Courts of Justice to the recent sculpture at Waterloo Place, Banksy’s interventions continue to transform unexpected public spaces into moments of international conversation.

Banksy’s ‘Bad Meaning Good’ (2002) is a striking early work that captures his distinctive blend of wit, rebellion and visual irony. Part of his conceptual “album cover” series, the work transforms a weapon-like form into an absurdist symbol through the addition of oversized clown-like shoes - turning aggression into irony and authority into critique.

Executed in spray paint and emulsion on canvas and released in an exceptionally limited edition of just four, this rare early work offers a fascinating insight into Banksy’s enduring ability to challenge the familiar and redefine the meaning of power.

Available at Andipa.

“Art is a language, an instrument of knowledge, an instrument of communication” said Jean Dubuffet.

This summer, Jean Dubuffet is celebrated in two major Paris exhibitions: ‘Pulsions: Jean Dubuffet, les dernières années (1974–1985)’ at the Fondation Dubuffet (until 24 October) and ‘La Houle du virtuel’ at the Palais des Arts et du Festival in Dinard (until 20 September), both highlighting the remarkable breadth of his late career.

At Andipa, ‘Couple de figures’ - a collage and felt-tip pen on paper - captures Dubuffet’s instinctive line, bold geometry and fascination with movement.

“There’s a certain romance to the idea of making sculpture” says Peter Burke. Andipa’s Director, Acoris, describes his work as “honest”.

Peter Burke’s latest collection, ‘Flights’, which is a new body of sculptures, drawings and collages that explore the symbolism of the staircase, is available to view at Andipa, as well as online.

Sculptor Peter Burke’s drawings offer a rare insight into the underlying structure of his practice. Works such as ‘Flight Study 2’ reveal the conceptual skeleton of his sculpture, where movement, rhythm, and spatial ambiguity are explored with an intimate immediacy that belies the physical presence of his three-dimensional works.

Available at Andipa as part of Peter Burke’s new collection Flights. We’d be delighted to welcome you for a private viewing.

In his new collection ‘Flights’, Peter Burke explores the staircase as a metaphor for transformation, memory, and the human condition.

‘Flights No 2’ depicts a skeletal house in steel, a raw industrial material, set against luminous gold leaf. Available at Andipa, where we warmly invite you to view the current collection. Get in touch for a private tour.

Alongside Andipa’s presentation of Peter Burke’s new body of work ‘Flights’, a new exhibition ‘Folly’ curated by Peter Burke is currently on view at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, on view until 30 August.

Featuring works by Peter Burke, Judith Jones, Jemma Gunning and Karl Singporewala, the exhibition explores the idea of the folly - from ornamental architectural relics to ambitious, unconventional artistic pursuits that challenge logic, utility and permanence.

Join Peter Burke in conversation at the RWA on 18 July, 11am–12pm.
