Only a few days left to enjoy this year’s Artmap Argyll trail, which runs until 31 August! 🎨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Kilmartin Museum is delighted to be part of the trail. While we don’t currently have an exhibition dedicated to local artists, you’ll find plenty of their work in our museum shop.

Look out for cards by Louise Oppenheimer, Lynne McGregor and Karen Beauchamp, glass art from A Touch of Glass, and notebooks and books by Jane Smith.

And if you’re exploring the area, make sure to visit Taynish Nature Reserve as well and follow the Taynish Art Trail, No. 18. Among the ruins of the old mill, you’ll find stunning photographs by students from Lochgilphead High School and Tarbert Academy, created as part of the Nature in Focus project, run by Kilmartin Museum and NatureScot earlier this year.

Did you know that beside Kilmartin museum, in Kilmartin Churchyard, you can find an extraordinary collection of medieval grave slabs dating from the 10th to the 17th century?

These beautifully carved stones, many linked to the Campbell family, feature warriors, swords, and intricate Celtic designs, offering a remarkable glimpse into Scotland’s past.

This site is free to visit, and we highly recommend not missing it as part of your trip.

Still thinking about what a great day we had at the Lochgilphead Celtic & Pictish Festival!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to see us, stopped for a chat and took the time to find out more about our museum and work.

We also owe a big thank you to everyone who shared our first video about the festival. You certainly helped get the word out, and what a turnout it was! 🙌

We had so many interesting conversations, met lots of lovely people and thoroughly enjoyed being part of it. A great reminder of just how much interest there is in the stories, archaeology and history of this part of Scotland.
