Happy World Cup launch day (drizzly Leeds, not sunny Mexico edition...)!

To celebrate, we're sharing some highly nostalgic World Cup objects from the Leeds Museums and Galleries collection - a Subbuteo Mexico '86 sticker (yes, 40 years ago!) and Italy '90 merch.

Anyone else remember - or still own - these absolute footy throwbacks?

Also, it's coming home...

To celebrate Volunteer Week, we are highlighting three of our new Store Tour Guide Volunteers, Melanie and Elizabeth! They will assist with the research and development of our in-depth behind-the-scenes tours held here at Leeds Discovery Centre.

Melanie was eager to work within the Discovery Centre because of the variety of objects in the collection store, with a particular interest in the dresses and ceramics!

Elizabeth is getting involved to develop her communication skills and discuss objects from the collection with a range of audiences.

Sarah wants to learn more about history, and is looking forward to learning from the store, as it has so many objects from so many time periods!

We’ve got the sauce ✨ Curator Kitty was on Bargain Hunt this week to show off our collection of Yorkshire Relish objects, a local sauce that was at one time the most popular condiment in the world.

Made to a secret recipe with 27 spices, Yorkshire Relish was manufactured right here in Leeds by Goodall Backhouse & Co. It was sold all over the world in the Victorian era, at its height over three million bottles per year! Sadly in the 1950s the company was sold and lost out to other competitors *cough* Henderson's Relish *cough*.

Our collection includes sauce bottles, cook books, and all sorts of memorabilia and merchandise. It’s currently on display at Leeds Discovery Centre – if you’d like to come and have a look, you can book a tour here: https://museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/whats-on/behind-the-scenes-store-tour-1hjr
