The Hovercraft Museum

Today's the day! We're definitely good to go, as we reopen to the visiting public for the first time! We are now open EVERY Saturday again from 10.00 - 4.00!
Plenty to see under cover, so don't be put off by the weather!

Please take time to read our Covid-19 information posters at the Museum, an example of which is included with the photos below.
Under government guidelines the wearing of face masks in museums is not mandatory, but if you wish to wear one, please feel free to do so.
As to be expected, and as we have set out previously, we have had to make changes in and around the Museum, which means some exhibits aren't accessible at this time, and if we get busy there may be a short delay before admittance, due to careful controlling of numbers on site.
We thank you in advance for your patience, and you have our assurance that we will make your visit as enjoyable as we can!

One year ago today.....
The Hovercraft Museum was very honoured to welcome HRH The Princess Royal, amongst other distinguished guests, to the Hovercraft Museum and back to the hovercraft she named 50 years prior.
Her Royal Highness was very interested in the collection and stayed longer than planned, taking time to speak to all the people presented to her from the Museum and the hovercraft industry both past and present.
After the speeches, unveiling of a plaque and presenting of a painting by founding Trustee Warwick Jacobs, the 190 guests on site were able to partake of a cream tea on the car deck of The Princess Anne.
A truly memorable day for many.
Our thanks to Rich Patterson for the excellent footage here.

Good morning everyone, I thought it was about time I gave an update on Princess Anne. Unfortunately we have not been able to access the museum other than to conduct safety and security inspections. However, I am pleased to report Anne is in good shape, if maybe looking a little unloved and in need of a good clean!

The team have been able to use the time to get on with sorting out some photos and other online resources such as maintenance records.

This week Lyndon Ford, our resident SRN4 expert and ex Hoverspeed Engineer will be posting some photos from the HS days which have not seen the light of day before. Next week I will have a series of photos covering the parts recovery from Princess Margaret.

As a museum we are also working on opening plans so that as soon as government advice allows we can welcome volunteers and visitors back to the museum.

Regards and hope you are all staying safe.

Steve

Doug was carrying on with the painting of the craft into Seaspeed colours today. In the absence of a second working pressure washer, a bit of good old elbow grease was used to clean this area!

A lot of original photos will be used now, as the livery gets a bit 'fiddly' in this area. Very few good reference photos seem to actually exist of the stern areas, as naturally most people are interested in photographing the forward end of the craft, and not the aft end!

Fortunately the museum archive does have enough to acuratly recreate the scheme. The port side will be completed in the next few weeks.

Today Doug and Steve have been giving The Princess Anne a little TLC ready for the better weather. More photos and full account to follow.
