After much hard work the new exhibition, ‘Launceston People and Places’ opened today in the Pop-up Museum in the town centre’s Merchant House. This exhibition will be refreshed throughout the year with different items from the Museum’s extensive collection. With 2025 being the 80th anniversary year of VE Day and VJ Day, there will be special mention of the men and women of Launceston and what happened in our town during World War 2. Thank you if you have visited today! If not please come along whenever you can to have a look at a significant period in our history as well as learning more about the people and places which made it what it is today.

The Pop-up will be open from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays to Fridays and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays, staffed by our loyal band of volunteer stewards, without whom there would be no Museum in Launceston. We can always do with more support so if you would like to volunteer with us or join the Friends of Lawrence House Museum, please get in touch.

The pop up museum has a new display from April the 1st. Part of our display will focus on VE day and VJ day. If you have any photographs that show celebrations of these historic events in the Launceston area we would love to see them!
We are looking forward to welcoming you at the pop up museum from April 1st.

Andi Snook of Launceston Library wote the following on facebook on a page followed by one of the administrator's friends. She asked me if Lawrence House Museum might help. Hence this post:

The library has received the following message by email with a request for any local help and advice please:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have some questions about the Launceston Music Festival and wonder if you can help, or put me in touch with someone who might be able to.
Amongst the effects of my late mother were three pendants from the Launceston Music Festival and one unidentified - I attach a photo of the four. On the back of one of them is written G. Alexander, who was my mother Grace (1929-2024). She was a talented singer and amateur dramatics actress and I believe she may have sung at the Festival and/or entered singing competitions in the 1940s or early 1950s - she married in 1954 and became Grace Rickard.
I would love to know more about the festival, what went on there and whether anyone has any programmes from the 1940s or early 1950s which might list her as a competitor/winner to give me some context for these medals.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Please contact Launceston Library if you can help, not Lawrence House Museum or the LHM Pop-up in High Street.

The Library will pass on messages as the family are not on Facebook
