Peter Pan Oatmeal
JM Barrie, best remembered as the creator of the “boy who wouldn’t grow up”, endorsed the product which was made in his Kirriemuir birthplace during his lifetime.

The firm started life in 1853. Seven years before James was born .

J.A. Whamond & Sons Ltd acquired the business and registered the Peter Pan logo that appeared on all their oats packets which were milled in Kirriemuir from 1928.
We have the original packaging of these oats on display at the birthplace

Visit the young authors first theatre where he would perform his little plays for his friends from his stage on top of the copper boiler. Entry could be gained by giving up your marbles, spinning tops or other small toys. The washhouse is intact today and would have been a busy little place where the whole of the tenement row had their days for washing and the daily collection of water from a stand pump at the washhouse door. It has been said that this little house with its chimney was the inspiration for the Wendy house in Peter Pan.

Sweetie anyone ?
From The Purple One to The Toffee Penny to The Green Triangle, Quality Street have been a favourite sweetie for generations but did you know that they got their name from none other than J.M. Barrie and his 1901 play of the same name.
Quality Street, opened at the Valentine Theatre in Toledo, Ohio on 11 October and arrived in New York to play at the Knickerbocker Theatre on 11 November 1901 before opening at the Vaudeville Theatre in London on 17 September 1902. It was a huge hit – running for a successful 459 performances.
