eum is a popular attraction for the Redcar and Cleveland region, particularly since the installation of the famous Saxon Princess exhibition, featuring rare Anglo-Saxon artefacts unearthed from the Cleveland region in 2007. Access to the museum is free with free parking facilities. Closed Mondays except Bank Holidays

What a summer it’s been at Kirkleatham Museum! 💛

As the summer holidays begin to draw to a close, it’s time to look back on what a wonderful summer of fun and smiles we’ve had here at Kirkleatham Museum! 🎉

From teddy bears and dinosaurs 🦖🐻 to pirates and scallywags 🏴‍☠️, circus skills, crafts, trails, games and plenty of adventures, there’s been something for everyone to enjoy!

We’ve loved seeing so many happy faces exploring the museum, getting creative, playing, learning and making memories together.

A huge thank you to everyone who has visited and helped make our summer so special. 💕 We hope you’ve had as much fun as we have!

And remember… the fun doesn’t stop just because the summer holidays are coming to an end! 👀

JAWS IS COMING TO KIRKLEATHAM!

This Friday 28th August, Mr Bones is bringing something MASSIVE to the 'Dinosaurs, Monsters and Lost Worlds' exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum.

A set of Megalodon jaws!

That's right – the jaws of the most terrifying predator ever to swim our oceans will be on display. And the big question is… DARE YOU STEP INSIDE FOR AN EPIC PHOTO?

But that's not all! You'll also get the chance to handle real Megalodon fossil teeth – feel the weight of history in your hands and imagine what it was like to come face-to-face with this prehistoric giant.

Perfect for fossil fans, adventure seekers and anyone brave enough to take on the mega shark!

If you’re heading to Kirkleatham Museum today, here’s a reminder about parking:

🚗 The museum visitor car park is closed while the festival takes place.
🚗 Parking is available at Kirkleatham Showfield.
♿ Blue Badge parking is available at Kirkleatham Walled Garden.

🌊🎶 Visiting Between the Tides Festival this weekend? 🎶🌊

Why not pop in to the museum as part of your plans!

We’re open as normal this weekend from 10am–4.30pm (last admission 4pm) and there’s plenty to see and explore, from our fantastic exhibitions and museum trails to our play park.

And don’t forget… your museum admission is an annual pass! 🎟️ That means once you’ve paid, you can come back and visit us as many times as you like for the next 12 months!

So if you’re in Kirkleatham village for the Between the Tides festival, pop in and say hello – we’d love to see you!

Children aged 4+ and their families are invited to try a fun new museum trail here at Kirkleatham Museum. The Lotta and Lola Museum Trail is a free spotter activity from Kids in Museums and Simon & Schuster inspired by Pudding Now Please, a new and original series from Charlie and Lola creator Lauren Child, starring Lola and her friend Lotta.

Follow the trail around the museum to help Lotta and Lola collect kind and useful-ish words that help us all get along. Complete the trail to collect a free sticker! (while stocks last)

The trail will run from tomorrow - Saturday 22 August until Sunday 13 September.

Share your drawing on Instagram or BlueSky with the hashtag and tag for a chance to win wonderful prizes, including a Double National Art Pass Plus Kids courtesy of Art Fund and a signed Lauren Child book bundle!

Please be aware that Kirkleatham Museum’s car park is closed from today as preparations begin for the Between the Tides Festival 2026, parking today will be at Kirkleatham Walled Garden.

The car park will remain closed throughout the weekend, and alternative parking is available at the Kirkleatham Showfield, with Blue Badge parking available at Kirkleatham Walled Garden.

🏛️ Kirkleatham Museum remains open as usual, and we look forward to welcoming visitors throughout the festival weekend.
