We had a private visit today from members of the Swanland Heritage Centre Despite the heatwave weather Colin took our visitors on a guided walk of Sutton village and thanks go to Liz Noble for allowing us to visit her at Sutton cottage which is oldest dwelling in the village. Refreshments were provided and our visitors had a tour of the museum. We thank them for their generous donations.

ANOTHER FASCINATING TALK AT THE CARNEGIE HERITAGE CENTRE! On Wednesday 24 June, HOLDING THE FRONT PAGE will see Angus Young talking about his 46-year career in local journalism, including his time at the Hull Daily Mail, working at both the Jameson Street and Blundell's Corner offices, and looking at how the media landscape has changed since he started out in 1980. The talk starts at 10.30am, doors open at 10am. Admission is only £3, payable at the door - a bargain! The Centre is at the gates of West Park on Anlaby Road in Hull, with plenty of free parking in the park itself. DON'T MISS THIS!

There has been some interest in the Domino books recently.
For anyone unaware of these books - these were a set of books made in 1967 with images and text by Eric Johnson. Each book described a school activity such as starting school, playing at school etc. The books were very successful and were used by schools across Great Britain.
We occasionally get people in to the museum who were featured in the books when they were children.
Were you featured in the Domino books? If you were would you be interested in a celebration of the books at the museum and a chance to meet other people featured in the books?

Todays Saturday opening was successful - we had a man from North Wales who is the grandson of the now deceased village blacksmith Con Calvert and we found 8 family photos of the Calvert family for him that he had never seen before.
Also at the museum was Cate from Durham who had driven down for the day. Some months ago she went in to a charity shop in Durham and found one of the Domino books that were produced at the old school in 1967 to illustrate school life. The headmaster from that time Eric Johnson took all the photos and the staged photos showed Sutton children undertaking school activities such as learning to read, building with bricks , playing in the snow and so on. Cate was amazed at the standard of the photography and she has managed to find a few more of the Domino books. She was so interested she came to Sutton today to see the museum and old school and see where the photos were taken all those years ago. She also wanted to know more about Mr Johnson and the school.
Its visits like these that make museum life so interesting and rewarding.
