RED EARTH ❤️

Inspired by the ever-changing colours, shapes and textures of Devon’s land and seascapes, Fi Wallace Velarde’s Red Earth is a celebration of colour, surface and the landscape.

Fi is a painter and printmaker whose practice begins with plein air drawings, sketchbooks and spontaneous observations, which she develops into layered compositions through colour, line, pattern and texture.

In her paintings, vivid colour, flowing lines and areas of pattern come together with rich, tactile textures, sometimes enhanced with collage, creating works that feel both rooted in the landscape and wonderfully expressive.

FALL SLOWLY IN LOVE WITH ABSTRACTION

Inspired by geological formations, coastal contours and the ever-changing structure of the landscape, Chowwai Cheung transforms the Devon coast into beautifully considered abstract compositions.

Layered geometric forms balance precise, hard-edged shapes with soft, translucent tones and richly textured surfaces. Look closer and the landscape begins to emerge - familiar contours, fragments and formations reimagined through colour, texture and memory.

Quietly captivating, these are works that reveal more the longer you spend with them.

MEET OUR LATEST GARDEN SECRET🦊

Meet Kutsune, our new bronze sculpture by Antonio Lopez Reche, nestled amongst the planting in the Velarde Sculpture Garden.

A captivating fusion of fox and female form, Kutsune draws on Antonio’s long-standing fascination with mythology and the enduring stories that explore what it means to be human.

Born in Barcelona, Antonio has developed a distinctive body of beautifully crafted figurative bronzes, exploring mythology through movement, strength and expressive, tactile surfaces.

There is something wonderfully mysterious about Kutsune in the garden as though she has stepped out of a forgotten myth and into our own secret garden.🌿
