On Wednesday morning Colin and Cecilia went to Kingsland Church, Colchester to give a talk about HMS Ganges to the Colne Probus Group.

The all male group showed great interest in the talk, had several questions and an enjoyable time was had by all.

We look forward to seeing them at the museum in the future for a group visit.

If you visited the museum today you would have been greeted by our volunteers on duty Terry and Clem.

It was a lovely sunny day which saw a regular flow of visitors.

One last minute visitor discovered he'd joined HMS Ganges in the same recruitment as Terry. Unfortunately he arrived only 15 minutes before closing time so another visit is a must.

Our end of season is looming!

Do visit on Saturdays and Sundays up until our final day on Sunday 25th October 2026.
Free Entry is from 11am - 3:30pm.
Closes 4pm.

CAN YOU HELP?

Do you have any information about this cross we have in our museum archives?

We believe it’s from St Andrew’s Chapel that was located on the foreshore of HMS Ganges on the site of the old salt water swimming pool.

We also believe the cross may have been made from the timbers of HMS Ganges.

If you have any information regarding the cross, or any photographs of it at the chapel, please do get in touch (via direct message) as we would love to hear from you.

Thank you.

Our three wise volunteers on duty this Saturday were Ian, John and Tim.

We're always looking for extra help so if you're reasonably local and interested in getting involved as a volunteer do drop in for a visit or get in touch via our website.

We had the benefit of a lovely sunny day and bursts of day trippers arriving on the foot ferry from Harwich.

🚗 This Sunday, 27th September, please be aware that the Ipswich Half Marathon will be taking place on Shotley Peninsula and part of the main road to Shotley from Ipswich (The Strand and Freston Hill) will be closed. The Diversion Route to the museum will be via Holbrook.

The museum is open from 11am to 4pm with Last Entry at 3:30pm.

A very Happy 80th Birthday to Graham Cullen who joined HMS Ganges on 21st November 1961. 🎉🥃

This fantastic cake was made by his wife Wendy to commemorate his special day. I’m sure Graham was well pleased. The cap is vanilla cake with the cap tally bought from the museum online slops. The base is chocolate cake. 🎂😋

Graham can’t remember his mess or class but has a letter sent to his parents from Captain J R Gower SB-8084.

Does anyone remember Graham?

Today we wish Harwich Museum a very Happy 5th Birthday. 🎉🎂🍾

Colin and Cecilia had a most enjoyable personal tour around the Harwich Museum recently and can confirm there's a lot of interesting stuff for visitors to view.
