We have had a lovely day at Howden Show. So much hard work must have gone in to the planning and organisation. We had a stand in the trade tent - quite warm in there- but we had lots of visitors. Our main display was of the winners and some of the other very impressive entries in the art competition we ran in memory of Cynthia Potter. Entries were from adults and school pupils. There are some very talented young people in Howden. Here is the display to prove it!!

We are inviting more entries for our art competition which we are holding in appreciation of former Civic Society member Cynthia Potter.
Some will remember Cynthia as an enthusiastic games teacher at Goole Grammar School. She was a talented hockey player and encouraged many girls to follow in her footsteps.
But she was also a talented artist - as shown in this lovely view of the Minster- and a supporter of our civic society.
So we would like amateur artists to submit entries illustrating some aspect of Howden. They can be in any medium and should be A4 or smaller. Only one entry per person and they must be the original work of the entrant.
Closing date is Friday 19th June and entries will be displayed on our stand at Howden Show.
There will be a prize of £100 for adult entrants and £50 for entrants under 16 [ give age on entry].

We are looking forward to our meeting next week on Wednesday April 1st at 7.30pm when our speaker will be Howden resident Air Commodore Ian Stewart CBE.
His talk is entitled Mach Numbers & Mess Nights. He will be talking about life as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force.
He will also touch on conflict in the Middle East from a military point of view.
Members are free but visitors pay £3 - but you get tea and biscuits as well.
Don't forget too that we now meet in the Methodist church on Hailgate.
