I think it’s been just over 2 weeks since I last posted, largely because this painting has taken up pretty much all of that time!

This one is going to be part of my upcoming exhibition Thelma Hulbert Gallery for Devon Artist Network and Open Studios … it has pushed me well and truly out of my comfort zone as I have transitioned into acrylic on canvas … the learning curve has been real but at the same time deeply rewarding. There were moments when I wondered if it would ever come together but I am finally happy with how it’s turned out.

August is a very liony kind of month hence the inspiration for the vase. I hope you like where my work is heading 🥰🦁🌸

🎨 Double Elephant: 30 Years Shaping Print features work showcasing many printing processes including linocut prints.

🔪 A linocut is a relief printmaking technique where an artist carves a design into a sheet of linoleum. The raised, uncarved areas are rolled with ink and pressed onto paper or fabric to create a mirror image.

👉Lauren Forrester has a background in graphic design evident in the bold shapes and colours that appearing in her work.
"There is always an element of unknown magic with printmaking, understanding how the layers of colour interact is endlessly fascinating to me. I work primarily with linocut – a traditional block printing technique."

👉 Steve Manning has adapted a medium usually associated with bold blocks of colour to capture fleeting cloudscapes and the ephemeral nature of light. He uses the reduction print technique where the lino block is gradually destroyed with each stage of the print process. Each print can have up to 12 colours applied which represent twelve different stages of the print process. Each edition is kept deliberately small.
"I am inspired by the landscapes of the West Country from the Somerset Levels to the Exe Estuary. My images expertly convey an immersive sense of space combined with a tangible sense of calm."

👉 Emma Molony's works in linocut, woodcut, drypoint, lithography, screenprint, etching, and monotype, using the distinct qualities and constraints of each medium.
"For me, printmaking feels like creative problem-solving; each process has different limitations which lead to unexpected results, and these continue to push the work in new directions."

👉 Victoria Owen's printmaking practice begins with drawing having recently completed a year long postgraduate course with the Royal Drawing School.
"My linocut prints celebrate line, organic shape and rhythm and are infused with elements of narrative, folklore and mythology and the connection between the human world and the more than human world is explored throughout my work."

👉 Joanne Roper's work ‘Barn Owl hunting’ is a response to the challenge of recreating the lightness of the bird and the joy of the moment, using Multi-block Linocut Relief printing.
"Watching a barn owl hunting in the early morning at a nature recovery site in South Devon is a wonderful experience. The sparkles of sunlight through the mist seemed to dance around the owl and it was a breath-taking scene."
