We are proud to be part of Heritage Open Days 2026 - 11th - 20th September, celebrating the fascinating history and heritage of our local community here at Bellingham Heritage Centre.
While large museums and stately homes often tell the stories of royalty, aristocrats and the great events of history, we believe that the everyday lives of ordinary people are just as important. ❤️

And if you want to go 500 years further back, discover the fascinating and often turbulent world of the Border Reivers, whose raids and rivalries helped shape the landscape and communities we see today.
The area around Bellingham is also rich in lore and legend — from Hesleyside Hall and Tarset Castle to the farmhouse at Snabdaugh, whose walls were built to withstand the threat of Border Reiver raids.
🌿 The Heritage Centre is special because it tells both stories: the romantic and turbulent past of the Border Reivers, alongside the real, everyday lives of the local people who came afterwards.

FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH 🔎🌳
We are delighted to announce that, on a trial basis, our volunteer genealogist Fran will be available to help with family history research enquiries.
📅 Thursdays
🕐 1.00pm – 3.00pm
Initially, these will be drop-in sessions, so there’s no need to make an appointment — simply come along and have a chat with Fran about your family history research.
Whether you’re just starting to explore your family tree or have reached a point where you need a little help, Fran will be happy to see if she can help you discover more about your ancestors, their lives and their connections to the area.
Please note: If the sessions prove popular, we may introduce an appointment system in the future.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Heritage Centre soon and helping you discover more about your family history.

Yesterday, we had a very special delivery at Station Yard! ❤️
Another railway carriage arrived, and we are absolutely delighted to welcome Belle’s sister carriage to Bellingham. 🚂❤️
It was a truly spectacular sight and a very special moment for everyone at the Heritage Centre — something we have been looking forward to for a long time!
A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who gave their time to support this very special arrival. Your help made such a difference, and we are incredibly grateful. ❤️
We would also like to say a massive thank you to our amazing photographers, Neil Denham and Peter Bell, who captured some fantastic images and footage of this spectacular event. We can’t wait to share more of these with you!
And another huge thank you to the highly skilled team from RSS Railway Support Services, whose technical expertise and precision enabled the carriage to be carefully and skilfully positioned onto her new track. 🚂👏

THIS IS A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
We are pleased to confirm that at 10:00 AM on THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST, a very special arrival will take place at Bellingham (North Tyne) Station / Station Yard.
BELLE’S SISTER CARRIAGE IS ARRIVING! ❤️
Passengers and visitors are advised that a railway carriage will be arriving into Station Yard, and we are delighted to welcome this exciting addition to our heritage collection.
It really is a moment we have all been waiting for — like Christmas has come early! 🎄🚂
🚧 PLEASE NOTE – TEMPORARY DISRUPTION
During the arrival and positioning of the carriage, there may be temporary disruption to normal access and services.
For safety reasons, access to the Heritage Centre toilets and parts of the platform may be restricted at times.
Please follow all instructions from staff on site, who will advise when it is safe to move around the area.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you haven’t already heard, another railway carriage will be making its way to Station Yard on Thursday, 20th August! 🚂
We are so excited to welcome Belle’s sister carriage — it feels a little bit like Christmas is coming early! 🎄🚂There is a real buzz around the Heritage Centre, and we can’t wait to see her arrive and become part of our Station Yard family.
There will be some temporary disruption while the carriage arrives and is positioned. We don’t have any timings at the moment as it all depends on the traffic!

Something rather special is arriving at Station Yard!
Another railway carriage will be making its way to us, and we’re delighted to welcome Belle’s sister carriage to Bellingham. 🚂❤️
🚧 PLEASE NOTE – TEMPORARY DISRUPTION
While the carriage is arriving and being positioned, there may be some temporary disruption to our normal service.
For your safety:
🚻 Access to the toilet from Tea on the Train may be temporarily limited
🚧 Parts of the platform may be closed
