Build, Code, Play: LEGO SPIKE Summer Fun

We’ve got an exciting new addition to our family workshop programme this summer!

Come and try LEGO SPIKE Essential this summer, where imagination meets robotics, coding feels like play, and every brick has a story to tell.

Suitable for ages 5+ All children must be accompanied by their adults during the workshop.

£8 per kit; each kit can accommodate two children. Each ticket represents one kit.
There are concession tickets for those on benefits or experiencing hardship.

Wheelchair accessible.

Join us every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays at 10.30 am for five magical family storytelling sessions with renowned local storyteller Kevin Graal.

Expect laughter, music, imagination and stories to delight children and grown-ups alike. Each week brings a new adventure, making every session a wonderful way to spend time together as a family.

As part of the National Honey Monitoring Scheme, we have collected samples of our honey to be tested.

Tiny traces of pollen found in the honey can tell us a lot about where our bees have been feeding. Scientists will extract DNA from the pollen and compare it with DNA from different plants. This will help us discover which flowers and plants bees are visiting in the local area.

The honey will also be tested for traces of pesticides. This gives us a better picture of the chemical’s bees may be exposed to while foraging and helps us understand potential environmental risks to honeybees and other wild pollinators.

By studying what is in the honey, we can build a clearer picture of the health of our local environment and the challenges facing our pollinators.

We’ve got an exciting new addition to our family workshop programme this summer!

For years, Hastings Museum has been using our trusty LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 robotics kits in our popular play workshops. Now we’re delighted to introduce the next generation of LEGO robotics: LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential. LEGO SPIKE Essential offers all the same fantastic opportunities to explore early robotics, coding and problem-solving, while introducing exciting new features including a Smart Hub, motors, colour sensors, a light matrix, and new LEGO minifigures with storytelling elements. The kits also include plenty of familiar LEGO bricks, giving children the freedom to build, invent and let their imaginations run wild.

Bayeux Around Britain

On 12 June, Bayeux Around Britain, supported by WorldQuant - the British Museum’s national programme and schools offer celebrating the Bayeux Tapestry - was launched right here at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery.

Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the British Museum, joined us to share some of the exciting things happening at venues across the country to coincide with the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of the Bayeux Tapestry.

We’re looking forward to sharing more about how we’ll be participating in the programme soon…
