Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum The Schoolroom Museum in Great Ayton is housed in a building once used as a charity school, it was here Captain James Cook received his early education.

Please check our weekly posts to verify opening times and dates, which are subject to change. The Trust manages the upkeep and development of the museum, on behalf of the village and local community. The museum, the site of the original schoolroom, houses an exciting educational display and interaction of the early life and achievements of James Cook.

The museum is open on Saturday 29 August and Bank Holiday Monday over this coming weekend.

Please note we are not open Friday 28 and Sunday 30 August.

This week the museum is open for our normal hours, between 1-4pm, Wednesday to Sunday inclusive. 🙌🏼🤩

If you’re not on a beach somewhere, or out sailing a boat, why not come to the village, grab a Suggitts ice cream and visit the museum to alleviate the school holiday boredom!?
