Heritage is crucial to Grantham as it binds us together by offering a fascinating collective sense of history, which will shape our aspirations for the town's future. The Grantham Museum acts as a guardian to this heritage and a focal point for the community. The Museum reopened in 2012, with the Grantham Community Heritage Association, a charity organisation run by the local community, taking the responsibility of keeping this vital local resource alive. By joining and supporting the Museum project, you can tangibly contribute to the improvement of the Museum.

Our wonderful Compton Organ has had a little upgrade, with new ropes installed around the exhibit!

These help us protect this special piece of musical heritage while ensuring visitors can still enjoy a great view of it, especially when our room is hired out.

It's the little improvements that make a big difference in helping us care for our museum and its treasures!

Dates for the diary!

Our Compton Organ Console Days are starting from 2nd January here at Grantham Museum! 🎶

These informal Open Console Days are a chance for us all to come together, play the organ, share their enthusiasm and enjoy a good old-fashioned museum social.

Whether you’re an experienced organist, someone rediscovering the instrument, or simply interested in hearing - or having a go on this remarkable piece of Grantham’s musical heritage, you’ll be very welcome.

There’s no formal programme, just an opportunity to spend time with the Compton, meet fellow enthusiasts, enjoy a cup of tea and have a chat.

On this day in 1940, Grantham was caught up in the Second World War when 'two high-explosive bombs struck Spittlegate Bridge at around 4pm'.

The bridge carried the Great North Road over the main railway line into Grantham from the south. The bombing caused significant damage, blasting away part of the parapet and damaging the road and railway below. Beneath the road were also pipes carrying Grantham’s main water supply from the works at Saltersford. Fortunately, most of the bridge remained intact and both road and rail traffic were soon restored.

These incredible photographs were taken by local photographer Walter Lee, whose camera documented Grantham throughout the Second World War. His photographs give us a remarkable visual record of what happened in the town during the war years.

We're thinking pink here at Grantham Museum in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Our beautiful Compton cinema organ has had a pink makeover to help raise awareness of breast cancer and show support for everyone affected by it.

A little splash of pink with a very important message – awareness matters, early detection matters, and together we can make a difference.

Reset Your Mojo CIC are hosting a welcoming and supportive LGBTQ+ group here at the Museum.

A safe space to explore your emotions, share experiences, build confidence and make new friendships with people who understand.

What stories could seven decades in the music and entertainment industry hold? Join us at Grantham Museum on Friday 6th November at 6.30pm for a special evening with local musician Trevor Leeson.

Born in Great Gonerby, Trevor’s incredible career began in 1958 and has taken him from skiffle and rock ’n’ roll to working alongside some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Ken Dodd and the Electric Light Orchestra.

Trevor will share stories and memories from his remarkable career, including famous encounters, memorable performances and the people and places that helped shape his journey.

Expect an entertaining evening of music, memories, humour and fascinating social history, told by one of Grantham’s best-known musicians.

Throwback Thursday and a wonderful piece of Grantham history!

The team from White & Sentance, proud sponsors of the Compton Organ’s Cathedral Chimes, recently brought along this fantastic old photograph of their former shop on Grantham High Street – a building many will recognise today as the NatWest bank.

It’s amazing to see how much the High Street has changed over the years, while White & Sentance continue their long musical heritage today.
