Wonderful photo.

For this week's Photo Friday, and for international womans day we have fisherlasses with a sturgeon in Gourdon. Fisherlasses were a key part of the fishing industry, however we do not know who these woman are. Can you help us improve our records?

(The museum has a great resource of photographs, however there are some that we don't know much about. We hope that with the power of social media Photo Friday will help us to fill these gaps)

This weekend, Aberdeenshire artists and makers are taking part in the NEOS Christmas pop up weekend 2019 - including Gourdon's own Sam Barnett. The perfect place for a unique gift this year, and shopping local to boot!

Tiles have arrived in time for my pop up shop this weekend, including my Christmas robin!

End of season chips for the Maggie Law team at Quayside, Gourdon on Tuesday night. The food was very much enjoyed by all (apart from Andy who got the time wrong and arrived an hour late!) - thanks for having us.

That's it for another year - thanks to all our visitors this year and see you again in 2020!

Hercules the Lobster & Lewis the Sheep

Hercules your jokes don't get any better, do they Andy? Big thanks to Andy from the Maggie Law Maritime Museum in Gourdon...this is their last weekend open for the season and what fab weather they have...do pop along and learn about this great piece of fishing heritage and local history. The Maggie Law lifeboat saved 36 lives during her 40 years of service and the museum houses heaps of stories about life in Gourdon during the time Gourdon was a thriving fishing village...today there is still a working harbour but so much else to see and do. Hercules and Lewis 😍

Almost as nice as Gourdon!

We are so lucky to have these Coastal Gems in the Mearns...each one is so unique and picturesque...take a jaunt to Johnshaven home of the Fish Festival and a big hit with Art Lovers visiting North East Open Studios (NEOS) which is on for the rest of this week...definitely worth a visit....

Found an old Gourdon Heritage Walks flier in the museum (must be old as mentions both the mill and campsite!). Does anyone know who did these two lovely illustrations for it?

Friend of the museum Emma Myatt says:

"Today Montrose Coastal Rowing Club are launching their skiff. Anyone who might be interested in coastal rowing is very welcome to come along and have a go. It’s family friendly, very social and fun to compete with other villages.

Come along to Montrose sailing club to watch the latest skiff being launched, the latest to join the Skiffie family! Catterline, Colliestin and Gourdon rowing clubs will be there too, so plenty of boats to have a row in.

Everybody welcome, come and see what Scottish coastal rowing is all about!

2pm, today, Montrose sailing club.

Hope to see lots of people there!"

Sounds great! And, if you have the time, why not visit the museum en route there or back? We're open between half one and four.

Harbour Bar, Gourdon

The Harbour Bar, Gourdon, would like to apologize for the end of the summer, because, as predicted, the beer garden will be completed at the end of the summer (looks outside and it's currently not raining 😂).
There's space and security for everyone to enjoy the beauty of the Costa del Gourdon now, including a sand pit to entertain the youngest guests.

Brighter Bervie

Brighter Bervie

Well, all of you missed a great community opportunity today to remove the non-native invasive Himalayan Balsam growing beside the Bervie Water. We had to rely on help from Mark and Jane from the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative and Scott with his Community Payback Team.
Its a real local success story when you compare this year's reduced haul (1st photo) versus last year's (2nd photo). We are winning the war against this plant pest!
What does it take to motivate you people? I'm running out of ideas how to generate meaningful community involvement here in Bervie. Benign comments about how nice things are don't pull-out weeds, put plant in the ground or improve our local environment for everyone's benefit!
This community can and should do much better than its present performance. Get out with us and make positive improvements to our wonderful surroundings. Believe me its actually enjoyable, healthy, therapeutic and fulfilling - yes, that's absolutely true.
Tuesdays & Thurdays 13.30 - 16.00h and Saturdays 09.30 - 12.00h. Come and join the fun and add your mark to making Bervie Brighter. Be lookin' for ye.

i Recently spent a lovely sunday afternoon taking photos In Gourdon harbour a favourite spot of mine and I look forward to my next visit which will include the museum
Sorry I can't help with names, I have had the photo a long time, 5 to 10 years. I have ancestors on my maternal side (Freeman family with origins in both Gourdon and Johnshaven) have been given copies of old photos from relatives, now mostly deceased. So no one left to ask!
