The Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust is pleased to be able to donate around £300 worth of stock from its Clippies Cafe to the Glasgow NE food-bank in Helenvale Street. With events at the garage off for the timebeing and the best before dates getting close, we wanted to make sure that the items were put to good use and where better than to these guys. The work they do is vital and especially so at the current time.

Here's the chairman at the garage this afternoon loaded up ready to go and drop off the goods.

There are some vehicles tucked away at the garage where some longer term work is underway on them.

Please don't get involved in this! What a horrendous idea to send uncontrollable fires into the sky to land on closed businesses, moorlands and farm buildings and set them ablaze killing animals when everything is bone dry!

We've heard that people are being asked to buy sky lanterns and set them off, in support of our amazing carers.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! ⚠️

These lanterns could cause a significant fire. A better, safer way to show your support is to stay at home!

Good morning from Bridgeton Bus Garage,

Like everyone, we're adapting to life in the current circumstances. A handful of us have been checking on the garage each day to see that all the vehicles are safe and sound. The Chairman now makes it his statutory "one period of exercise per day" to bike down to the garage and see what's what!

Here's a video from a visit at the weekend walking round the main shed. Hopefully this eases an withdrawal symptoms folk might be experiencing.

Hope everyone is well and looking after themselves and others.

Best wishes,

Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust

Dear Member, Friend or Supporter,

Taking account of the very latest HM Government advice issued this evening, and the advice from the Scottish Government earlier today, the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust informs you that Bridgeton Bus Garage is now closed until further notice.

We will keep the situation under ongoing review and respond as appropriately to Government advice. No-one is to attempt to make a visit to the garage during this time. We will keep the building under surveillance with a daily inspection to maintain security.

This is a fast-moving situation with much uncertainty. It is impossible to say when the garage will re-open or when we will next have events. But we remain hopeful that all is not lost and that we may have some events towards this coming autumn.

In the meantime, thank you for all the support that you continue to provide the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust. It is very much appreciated especially in what are very strange times.

Please look after yourselves and others. We know many of you have children, elderly parents or friends and relatives with underlying health conditions who need support at this time. Vintage vehicles are not important in comparison. It's vital you and your loved ones stay safe!

Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Coronavirus Mitigation Measures at Bridgeton Bus Garage

Dear Member,

We need to remind you of the measures we have put in place at GVVT to help mitigate the spread of coronavirus, particular those at Bridgeton Bus Garage.

Since we wrote to you on Monday night, the Government has increased measures to protect the public. We need to recognise this. For the moment, Bridgeton Bus Garage remains open on a limited basis. However, we are now actively considering its full closure. We continue to review the latest advice and will seek to act promptly in accordance with it. But in the meantime, we re-emphasise our previous message. We very strongly discourage ALL members from visiting the garage.

All GVVT events, whether at the garage or elsewhere, are cancelled until mid-May at the earliest. We may need to make further cancellations but we wait and see whether that will be necessary.

It is absolutely vital that you abide by this request. If the situation changes then we'll be in touch right away.

In the meantime, look after each other and do all you can to stay safe.

Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.

Steven Booth

Something to cheer you up!

Good morning from Bridgeton Bus Garage,

We live in strange times at the moment. All the things we are used to doing are being curtailed. And unfortunately, we're no different at GVVT. We've made the difficult decision to cancel some events and keep things under review as the situation unfolds.

It is too early to say what the full impact of the coronavirus pandemic will be to our events this year. We remain hopeful that events such as our Open Weekend in October will take place.

With that in mind, we would like to share a smashing film produced for us by Paul Russell at Newshot Productions that advertises our 2020 Open Weekend. The film was shot at our 2019 Open Weekend and is a nice reminder of happier times. Many thanks Paul! Enjoy!

Look after yourself and others.

Best wishes,

Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust

14/03/2020

Good evening from Bridgeton Bus Garage,

We are pleased to share information about a new book that's been released called 'Glasgow Trolleybuses' published by Trolleybooks.

The book is written by Brian Deans with support from Stuart Little. Brian passed away in 2018 with much of the book prepared but unfortunately not published. This is where Stuart stepped in to complete the job. And what a fine job that's been done. It is the definitive history of Glasgow's trolleybuses and essential reading for all transport enthusiasts. Those with an interest in local history will also find the book fascinating as the pictures show long-forgotten street scenes.

GVVT are delighted to confirm that it will be selling this book at its events this year so look out for it!

Best wishes,

Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust

The July Open Sunday will have a Scottish Bus Group theme. The August Open Sunday will be our Family and Community Fun day.

On each of these Sundays visitors will have access to wander round and look at what goes on, seeing vehicle restoration work at all stages. This will include our large display of restored vehicles. Information about each vehicle is displayed on them. GVVT volunteers will also be on hand around the building to help visitors with queries and answer questions

Good evening from Bridgeton Bus Garage,

Well, it was nice to see the sun and blue sky this afternoon after all the wind and rain recently. Taking the opportunity to bask in the winter sunshine was Western SMT Leyland Leopard SCS 335M in the very smart black and white coach livery. Preserved buses are seldom better than this!

Always wanted to know so might as well ask. How does someone who doesn't have a license to drive (vintage?) buses get one? Is it possible to just pay for your own or not that simple? Did my B+E a few years ago and drive a traction engine (no license needed if not a roller!) but I know one day I'll end up owning or at least having the chance to drive one!
D349ESC seen moving under it owns power for years.
Does anyone know if this is still open and if so opening times? I've searched the site and called but no answer 🤷‍♀️
I know it's not a clear image but it's all I have to go on. Can anyone ID the operator from the livery? This was in 1989 possible Glasgow/Lanarkshire company.
This has just gone on eBay. Please make sure you have somewhere to store a bus before you buy one.
Seeing all the old buses in their livery is good & brings back some good memories of days gone by..!!👍👍👍👍
Have a great time today, everyone! One of these days I will get back home and visit there!❤
Any idea what vehicles are on the shuttle on Saturday
Can someone help me looking for a book thinking red cover its about busses.
Can anyone help me please looking for the book red cover Glasgow something about busses
Noticed the highland Y type leopard in a news item about Govan tonight. Was this from archive footage or was it out and about around Govan this weekend?
