Should be a good event later this year...

Event Announcement:

We are very excited to announce that day one of our event on the 18th of September will be run in partnership with the Dundee Museum of Transport.

The day one event will take place at their site on Market Street in Dundee where there will be a collection of vehicles that you can interact with, hands on exhibits and attractions, model bus collections to admire as well as the great exhibits and facilities that the museum has to offer.

A free shuttle bus service will operate all day and other excursions will also be available. Stick by for information on these later in the show along with exciting news for day 2 of the event.

We are looking forward to working closely with the museum to offer you a thrilling day out and look forward to seeing you all there.

One of the lesser photographed buses at the garage is this handsome Bristol Lodekka with ECW bodywork in the livery of Western SMT. It stands ready to welcome GVVT members next week.

Good afternoon from Bridgeton Bus Garage,

You may be interested in a programme available on catch up via the BBC iPlayer. It’s called ‘Greetings from Scotland’ and its about the birth of the tourism industry in the country. It goes on to cover the development of tourism in Glasgow and in particular the open top bus tour of the city.

The programme interviews Alex Pringle (a GVVT member) about his role in setting up and establishing the tour. The Trust’s Volvo Olympian open topper was used for the filming (itself a former Glasgow City Sightseeing bus) expertly driven by another GVVT member Mark Budd.

Click the link below to watch the programme.

Best wishes,

GVVT

What was it like to walk through the gates of Bridgeton Bus Garage in 1965 when it was brand new and the paint still wet?

GVVT is nothing without its people, writes the chairman in his foreword to the latest publication by the Trust.

Bridgeton by Bridgeton salutes our people. It is an overdue celebration, the story of Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust told by its members.

Written by journalist Ed Bonner, designed by respected writer and photographer Stuart Bell and funded by member Phil Blair, the 36-page picture-packed booklet shifts the emphasis from the metal to the men and women who give life and energy to our group.

From 1965 and the driver ordered to work at the newly opened Bridgeton Garage – whether he wanted to or not – to the five founders who had a whip-round to help set up the Trust, Bridgeton by Bridgeton tells the story in the words of those who were there.

Share the enthusiasm of our vehicle preservationists, discover the work of Back On The Road and the dedication of our archivists, and relive the fun and colour of GVVT events in Bridgeton by Bridgeton, cover price £5 (£6 including P+P), released on 2nd April. Available to pre-order from www.GVVT.org/shop/
