- My Favourite Scottish Work of Art: Denise Mina - 🌟💥🏵

The Scottish crime writer Denise Mina (known for the Garnethill trilogy amongst others) has highlighted an ambitiously conceptual work of performance and installation by Simon Starling.

‘At Twilight’ was produced in collaboration with the theatre director Graham Eatough, to reimagine W. B. Yeats’s play ‘At the Hawks Well’, which was first performed in collaboration with modernist, Ezra Pound, in 1916 at the height of WW1. Starling’s interpretation explored the relationship between the early proponents of modernism, staged as Pound and Yeats duelling, part Theatre of the Absurd, part exhibition.

"We are incredibly lucky to be living through a time when Scotland is world renowned as a centre for contemporary art. I was lucky enough to see ‘At Twilight’... performed at Holmwood House. Like all the art I really love I can’t quite articulate why it moved me so much." Read more of Mina's words and about the piece on our website, link below.

Sotto Voce - Klee EP (RPMI001)
Release: 6/11/20

"From a remote cottage in Argyll comes the sound of Sotto Voce, a project from Luke Fowler & Victoria Morton, commissioned by the The Modern Institute gallery and Redstone Press in Glasgow.

“Klee” flits between haunted dub mutations, foreboding ambience and melancholic meanderings in a piece of work that reflects the dark and barren landscape in which it was composed. After locking themselves away during the tail end of Scottish winter, an audible snapshot of Luke and Vikki's surroundings re-emerge in this 5 track EP."

Last year we were approached by Glasgow gallery The Modern Institute to collaborate on a musical project with the mind to release the result to coincide with this years Glasgow International but the world fell apart and so here we find ourselves.

We have Oliver Pitt to thank for the beautiful artwork and design, all sleeves have been screen printed by his hand right here in Glasgow.

As always, huge thanks to Richard/Rubadub for their continued support and lastly all the crew at The Modern Institute, especially Toby, for letting us run with this project and being patient with our needs and wants!

You can listen to the first track and pre-order here: https://rpmi.bandcamp.com/releases

'Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller' at Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition runs until 26/03/2017.
.
Jeremy Deller used the traditional life drawing class to stage a performative event with Iggy Pop as model and subject.
The fifty-three drawings included in the exhibition were created on February 21, 2016, during a one-day life drawing class, using Pop as the unexpected model. The class was held at the New York Academy of Art and included twenty-two artists drawn from New York City’s diverse communities, ranging in age from 19 to 80, with varying backgrounds and levels of education and experience.
