The Kākāpō. The world's largest parrot. A flightless bird that burrows underground like a rabbit and is active at night like an owl. Like many flightless birds it has unfortunately been left at the mercy of humanity. Sadly, these birds have valuable feathers. On top of that, introduced predators like stoats and cats have wreaked havoc on New Zealand's ground-nesting birds. The Kākāpō has now been reduced to isolated populations on the small islands off New Zealand. Here two species from opposing sides of the world come face to face for the first time.
A tiny selection of some of the work currently on show in compass gallery . Please browse the website … or better still come in and see us ! Www.compassgallery.co.uk Tues to Saturday 10.30 till 4

Roald Dahl

Compass Gallery, Glasgow’s longest established Contemporary Art Gallery, opened its doors in 1969 at 178 West Regent Street with the aim of nurturing and supporting emerging artists. Offering rare opportunities to exhibit, over the years Compass has displayed the work of almost every renowned Scottish artist, often giving them their first solo shows. It built its longstanding reputation for supporting the careers of the newly graduated artistic talent from the four Scottish art schools, particularly through the annual New Generation Show. 51 years later, Compass Gallery continues to present a rolling programme of exhibitions of artworks across all mediums for sale, created by both newly emerging and long established artists from Scotland and beyond. Compass Gallery is a registered not for profit charity, sustained wholly on commission from sales and generous donations from our supporters.
