Very disappointed to read yesterday on the Scottish Cinemas page, that an apple for a Building Warrant had been made in November to demolish the former VOGUE CINEMA on 124 Balmore Road - and it was Granted yesterday.

The Application had been made by G & J Demolition Ltd of Kilsyth - presumably on behalf of the owners, Allied Vehicles Ltd.

Designed by notable Glasgow Architects John and James McKissack, the Cinema was opened in 1933 - as THE MECCA CINEMA - by local businessmen Smith & Welsh. It was bought over by Singleton Cinemas in 1950, and renamed VOGUE - retaining that name when it was converted into a Bingo Hall in the late 1960s/early 1970s.

Campaigners are petitioning Local Councillors to save this handsome, landmark building - including Paul Sweeney MSP, who has asked the Council to serve a Preservation Notice on the (presently Un-Listed) building.
