A different format, perfect for narrower spaces

Coastal Walk and Coastal Flow are elegant, panel-shaped paintings that beautifully capture Blythe’s distinctive seascapes. Winding coastlines and bustling harbours draw you into each scene, while delicate touches of silver leaf catch the light, adding a beautiful shimmer and extra depth to the sea.

Our current show with Blythe Scott is in many ways a homecoming exhibition with her return to Glasgow, where her artistic journey first began.

But Blythe has also spent many years abroad living and working in places such as Canada, Tokyo and Paris, a city celebrated by this painting ‘Encore.’
Blythe says, “As with all the pieces in this collection, I have a connection with each of the locations painted. After graduating from Art School, I had the most out of the blue offer to take a job in Paris as a decorative artist. I packed my bags and boarded a plane three days later! I could have chosen to represent this chapter with a whole host of buildings, but Palais Garnier has always been a favourite of mine architecturally and with its connection to the arts.”
We have included some more detailed images, in situ photographs and a video to capture the richness of its colour and energy, and the silver leaf in the sky.

Ayrshire Fantasy’ by Blythe Scott

Another striking large-format piece from our hugely successful exhibition, ‘Connection’.

Blythe brings this west-coast inspired landscape to life through an extraordinary mix of materials, techniques, vibrant colour and rich texture.

The sea and sky are all about the gold and silver metallic leaf being used to catch the light, creating a shimmering interplay across the water with the iconic Ailsa Craig sitting distinctively on the horizon.
In contrast, the foreground brings the bursts of colour as the treeline shifts more into the abstract with various different materials being used for further texture and effect.

A much admired painting in the exhibition and on display until this coming Sunday, 25th October

Alongside Blythe’s vibrant cityscapes and charming coastal towns, we’re delighted to share a small selection of her much-loved still life paintings.

Blythe’s bold, expressive style brings vases of flowers to life, bursting with colour and character. Each piece invites you to take a closer look, with little details revealing themselves the longer you linger.

There’s just one still life painting remaining from the exhibition ‘Forever Flowers I’. We’ve also shared some close-up details to show how this small but striking canvas really packs a punch!

Our Blythe Scott ‘Connection’ exhibition has been tremendously successful already and we still have a few weeks of it to run. Blythe’s paintings have a fantastic energy and vibrancy to them and they really are best experienced in person. If you can’t make it to our gallery though, we have a virtual gallery tour where you can stroll round the exhibition from the comfort of home and enjoy the paintings as they’re currently showing in the gallery.

Having returned to Scotland after many years living and working in Canada, Blythe has continued to build and develop her artistic practice and opportunities to acquire her work are relatively rare. As part of our new exhibition with Blythe, we have a number of stunning paintings focussing specifically on Glasgow, reflecting Blyth’s enduring affection for the city while capturing the buoyant, optimistic energy she associates with living and studying in Glasgow in the late 1980s and 1990s.

‘ Landward’ is one of the stunning new pieces from Blythe Scott as part of her ‘Connection’ solo exhibition just opened at the gallery.

Based on the Fife landscape where Blythe loves to paint her coastal scenes, this piece is a little different in that where usually her focus is towards the coastline whereas for this painting, Blythe decided to shift focus landward.

Bringing in a collage of elements that she saw while she was travelling around the area into one scene this is colourful, bright and the gold leaf sky gives a fantastic and constantly changing depth.
