Step into the longhouse and become part of the story✨

Nest & Fable will be at Moorforge Training & Traders, offering striking portraits for everyone. It’s completely free to take part and we’ll be set up in the Small Longhouse on both days.

Photographs will be available on our gallery site after the event, where you can purchase your favourites for £10 per digital image. Professional prints will also be available.

Whether you’re in full kit or simply enjoying the event, we’d love to create something memorable for you.

Greetings Everyone! Here’s some important information with regards to the Folk music night Sat 27th June at
Moorforge “Training & Traders”

Due to the Volume of people on site over the weekend, admittance to the Longhouse during the Folk Music session is ticketed for everyone ,
this part of the Training & Traders event is hosted by “Folk Cumbria”

So tickets can only be purchased through “Folk Cumbria’s” event page on Facebook:

or their “Square. Link” event page…..

It’s advised to purchase a ticket to avoid disappointment.

The Viking settlement site will be open, with a communal fire near the longhouse for anyone who doesn’t manage to get a ticket.

Moorforge Viking Settlement is set to host another Viking Age extravaganza!

“Training & Traders”

June Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th

Gates open 10:30 until 17:30

Open to the public £5 entry on the gate - under 16’s free

The Viking Settlement will be a fully immersive Early medieval market village, Full of authentic Viking age stalls & Crafts folk in period dress ,with a wide range of Ancient & Contemporary heritage crafts for sale!

You can meet & trade with the crafts folk, see some of them making the crafts in front of you! There will be something of interest for all ages ✨

This event will also be a Training Event for the UK’s early medieval combat groups, so you can watch them fighting in Eastern & Huscarl styles over the weekend, see them battle it out on the field.

We will be continuing our usual tradition of hosting a music session the Saturday night. This event is ticketed, separately from the daytime events, with details here...

Food will be available all weekend from the Moorforge Kitchen, with a range of exceptional quality foods suitable for veggie, vegan & meat eaters 🙏🏻

This event is welcome to dogs, there is a strict on the lead at all times policy.

Dog owners bare in mind in the battle area it will be potentially loud and there will be lots of action on the battle field. Please consider if that’s an appropriate place for your dogs reactiveness.

Moorforge Viking Settlement is set to host another Viking Age extravaganza!

“Training & Traders”

2026 June sat 27th & Sunday 28th

Gates open 10:00 until 17:30

Open to the public £5 entry on the gate - under 16’s free

This event will be a Training Event for the UK’s early medieval combat groups, so you can watch them fighting in Eastern & Huscarl styles over the weekend, see them battle it out on the field.

There will be a range of different combat tactical assaults, with 1v1, bridge team fights, full company shield wall battles & more…. This is Full contact sport combat, not choreographed reenactment!

The groups will also setting up their early medieval encampments, with authentic tents and camp areas, which you can see and speak to the warriors off the battle field, a unique opportunity to see what Viking age travellers lifestyle would be like.

Many thanks to our good friend & exceptional local stone carver Tony of LOST in STONE for creating and gifting to the Moorforge site this fantastic sandstone carving of one of the 12th century Lewis chessmen the commonly known “berzerker”, considered one of the most significant Viking era finds, the original figures were carved from walrus ivory & whales teeth. Discovered 1831 on the coast of the Isle of Lewis, thought to be originally carved in Trondheim,Norway.

Tony is holding a stone carving course at Moorforge Viking settlement site on the 16th & 17th of May

Moorforge - our new family. Some deep bonds were formed and some life long friends have been made. Thank you to everyone for being so incredibly welcoming, we are so grateful to you all for welcoming us to Moorforge with open arms. Photographs will be ready as quickly as we can edit them. In the mean time, we are waving at you from Ireland where we're getting geared up for the Boyne Valley Viking Experience at Slane, where we'll catch up with a few of you that we saw over the weekend!
