Questions about Baltic Open Submission 2026? 💭

We are holding an online and in-person drop-in session in Front Room (mezzanine level) on Wednesday 3 June, 10am-5pm, with Assistant Curators; Rosie Coleman Collier and Rose McMurray.

No need to book. Simply show up on the day, or for an online slot please email [email protected] to request the Zoom link.

Rosie Coleman Collier and Rose McMurray are on the selecting panel for Open Submission 2026 alongside North East-born and internationally renowned artists, Laura Lancaster and Rachel Lancaster; Will Hughes, Tees Valley Artist of the Year 2025; Terox, and Baltic Young Producers.

Inspired by the force of luxury consumer culture on women, particularly during middle age, Milly Thompson's Desert Siren shows a selection of sculptures draped in fabric to represent the impossible bodies. Representing the unrealistic aspirations and unattainable beauty standards pushed onto women by glamourous, designer adverts.

Swing by our Art Car Boot Fair and browse unique artwork & crafts from 50 stallholders and independent artists, alongside summer beats from a live DJ.

Step inside Baltic and experience two brand new exhibitions. Explore the works of Brooklyn-based artist Chitra Ganesh in Journey to the Great Below and experience a new and expansive exhibition of the late Tish Murtha, presented alongside work by Kuba Ryniewicz in Close to Home.

Take a stroll up to The Glasshouse and browse their contemporary makers market, grab yourself a delicious, iced latte and soak up the sun and sights across the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside views, alongside their resident DJ keeping the feel‑good tracks rolling.

Know a young person who's dreamed of displaying their art at Baltic? Here’s their opportunity - applications are now invited for art that is created around the theme of Local. It can be painting, sculpture, drawing or more. Selected works will feature in a group exhibition this September.

This July the Q***r Pleasure Archive arrives at Baltic Library to celebrate creativity, history and experiences through a q***r lens.

Artist Sarah Li will open the archive and host a series of creative activities on the themes explored in the collection, including creative workshops, journalling and an opening celebration with talks and pop-up performances from DGA Collective.
