We have a genuine mystery for you today. We came across this coat of arms showing a llama (possibly an alpaca), a tree and a cornucopia. We tried to figure out where it was from but had no luck, any ideas? If you are bored with the kids why not make your own coat of arms and for more llamas, check out our Falkirk Parks FB page where there have been some new arrivals!

Meet Daisy, dating from around 1910 she is keeping the museum store clean for us during lock down. Adorable, and manual, it works on bellow which creates low pressure (the vacuum) required to suck dirt into the cleaner. Not very efficient by modern standards, it probably wouldn't even suck up dust but it is still a lovely piece of history. The first electric Hoover arrived in Britain from the US in 1912. It cost £25 more than the maids who used it earned in a year.

Back in October last year we found this little Roman copper-alloy figurine representing a bound captive at a site on the Antonine Wall. Only 37mm high, the naked captive is crouching with his legs together and drawn up and his elbows on his knees. His arms are flexed with the hands clasped together: a rope connects his neck, hands and feet. The head appears relatively large. Only 17 of this type of figurine have been found across the Roman empire on the Rhine/Danube frontier and in Britannia and this find represents the most northerly. Their original use is not known.

Falkirk Community Trust

We are sorry to hear of the recent issues that are affecting the gas supply in the local area. We are happy to report that all Falkirk Community Trust venues (with the exception of Carron Gymnastics Centre and swimming lessons at St Mungo's high school) are fully operational. Customers who have swimming lessons at St Mungo's will be contacted shortly with information.

We understand this is a challenging time for many Falkirk residents and we are keen to help wherever we can in your attempts to stay safe and warm. Our sports venues have shower facilities and we will waive the charges for these at this time, so if you need to shower then please visit our sports facilities and we will try our best to accommodate you.

We are aware that many schools and nurseries have had to close so remember that the Mariner Leisure Centre’s softplay area, swimming pools, libraries and Callendar House are all open today and would be happy to see you.

We hope that you are able to stay warm whilst having fun with your children in some of our facilities.

I walk round the dams regularly and wondered what it looked like before so i did this in minecraft from what old maps and photos i could find on the net as (was shocked at how few there are for a 300+ year old company ) . there is a high degree of artistic licence took a good couple of weeks.
I have just found a reference to someone being fined ten Scots pounds in 1647 "for their absense in Ryding of the said nobill earle his fair of Falkirk haldine at the burgh thairof upone the first day of Maij instant" [The Falkirk & Callendar Regality Court Book 129.8] I thought riding the boundaries was a Borders practice, and I wondered what the above referred to. Please can anyone help?
