Arusha London

The space in London is a vigorously authentic physical manifestation of all that is Arusha. Located in the artistic centre of Fitzrovia, Arusha London is sleek and modern, yet no less enchanted, featuring permanent, specially designed features from Arusha’s collaborators embedded in the bones of the gallery.

Ornate gargoyles () with crystalline eyes watch from the eaves, scrupulously guarding its artistic hoard below. An iron staircase, maze like wooden flooring, mosaics and stained-glass panels (.kasturi) provide organic visual elements that augment the urban setting.

This branch of the Arusha organism vibrates with vitality, offering yet another avenue of energetic exploration amongst the busy streets of the capital, providing the opportunities to expand into more experimental programming, installations and performance in the centre of London.

Arusha is a visionary offering celebrating the life force and energy that is channelled through the fire of creative impulse.

It was birthed in 2013 out of founder Bella Arusha’s desire to build a space for art focused on Spirit, the numinous, and the transformative. Since that time, Arusha has intuitively cultivated a truly inspired and diverse selection of artists united by their ability to connect to and provoke deep and imaginal experiences of awe and mystery, rising above trends to inspire powerful artistic encounters, touching the eternal and archetypal.

The world of Arusha is timeless and transcendent, drawing on myth, icon and triggers of the collective unconscious, inviting their audience to go deeper into their interactions with art and be open to possibilities, innovation and the potential for an alchemical transformation.

Arusha artists transport their viewers, connecting them to other dimensions with stories of shapeshifters, goddesses, shamans and shamankas, chthonic entities, full and dark moons, lovers and blue twilights. Arusha’s artists are eclectic, originating from a variety of backgrounds, yet their works share a unique quality of dynamism, rippling with a pulsating vitality, delivering ecstasies both wild and muted.

Arusha travel to wild places of dreams and visions through the imagined folktales of narrative led scenes, resplendent in texture, form and colour, to muted, moody dreamscapes of places with a sense of familiarity, to sculptural forms birthed from the earthen clay, delivered through the hands of an artist. Arusha artists, even in their diverse approaches are linked by a fearless quality and layered visual and thematic intensity, tending toward luminous palettes, painterly lines and engaging textures. They inspire immersive encounters with raw sensuality, the dark, the taboo, the anima and animus, the shadow, transforming you into a vo**ur, a fellow traveller, becoming both the healer and the healed, or perhaps even an initiate.

Arusha are pleased to announce the opening of a dynamic new flagship venue, Arusha at Llwynwermod.

Envisioned as a gallery with additional expansive spaces for performance, retreats and workshops, Arusha at Llwynwermod will be launching an innovative and exciting calendar of shows and events beginning in the summer of 2025. Set on the remarkable property of Llwynywermod in Carmarthenshire, this magical 192 acre site owned by the Duchy of Cornwall is steeped in quiet beauty, surrounded by a rich legacy of Welsh legend and history.

International in scope, yet Welsh at its core, Arusha at Llwynwermod will transform the cultural landscape of South West Wales with impactful and thought provoking programming, courses and exhibitions, promoting Wales as an exceptional destination for contemporary art, art education, and culture.

Inspired by the renowned legacy of the legendary Physicians of Myddfai, the official launch of Arusha at Llwynwermod at Summer Solstice 2025 will center around the world of plants, and will include an exhibition, lectures and workshops designed to inspire our spiritual relationship with plants as healers and teachers.

The town of Myddfai near Llwynwermod has a storied association with the knowledge of healing plants that has been passed down through generations of local healers. The celebrated Physicians of Myddfai, known for their expertise in plant lore and herbal medicine, were originally detailed in 13th century Welsh manuscripts, yet the area continued to be associated with the traditional knowledge of medicinal uses of herbs and plants until the 1800s.

At Summer Solstice 2025, Arusha at Llwynwermod will build on the local legacy of plant knowledge, integrating Welsh traditions with those of a global community, with a powerful program inspiring both contemplation and transformation. The spectacular yet tranquil setting of Llwynwermod will showcase the breathtaking gardens and natural beauty of the area, providing an idyllic environment for learning, conversation and experience.

Jack Dunnett

Jack Dunnett is a painter who merges techniques of traditional oil painting with explorations into reactions between household chemicals, building materials and found pigments. Working with processes which build up and strip away layers, he creates paintings which examine relationships between prescriptive mark-making and chance elements, combining structure and chaos to create scenes which hold themselves in a state of balanced tension.

Helen Flockhart

work is deeply rooted in the exploration of myth, nature, and transformation. Her symbolism often revolves around the connection between the human experience and the natural world, depicting the cyclical nature of life and death. Through surreal landscapes and layered imagery, she examines themes of personal growth, inner conflict, and the complexity of identity.

Anne Rocke

Anna’s work acts as a safe and free space to explore the awkward and fragile interaction between familiar and unfamiliar spaces. Painting from memory, she naturally condenses images from first and second hand experiences using incessant patterns, providing a liminal space, in which these realities or fantasies can exist in their distorted, fragmented and transitory form.

Ilona Szalay’s online exhibition, Storm, is a collection of abstract landscapes capturing the intensity of nature and human emotion. Spanning a decade, these works examine the power and turbulence of this elemental force.

Ilona is a British-Hungarian artist known for her exploration of power, vulnerability, and human connection. She is working across a variety of media—including canvas, glass, aluminium and paper. After studying English Literature at Oxford, she went on to complete an MFA at Central St Martins in 2002.

Naomi Workman: Mythic from the Pacific

Naomi Workman spent the summer of 2023 in residence at ESMoA (the Experimentally Structured Museum of Art) in El Segundo, Los Angeles, USA. In the studio Workman developed a series of 28 drawings in pencil on paper, in a spiral-bound sketchbook privately filling the pages inventing a water-shaped human character dubbed ‘Soup’ anthropomorphising the origin of life. This muse-come-alter-ego metamorphoses into a female form, her long straight hair crests and troughs in the shape of waves on the Pacific Ocean.

‘Soups’ liquidity aids the evolution of her shape like a crab finding a new shell; she seeks vessels and watering holes to contain her. In her search, Americana and the distinct characteristics of west-coast Southern California emerge. Here she sprouts legs and assimilates; learning our human behaviours to walk among us. Shapeshifting she seeks a route through the underlying infrastructure of Los Angeles seeking the channelized rivers; the life force of the ‘City of Quartz’, built from the desert.

Naomi studied at Camberwell College of Arts and at The Royal Drawing School. She lives and works in London.

Fiona Finnegan’s works from 2021 reflect an atmosphere of introspection and quiet mystery

‘I’m interested in exploring the persistence of cultural memory and a nostalgic yearning for a bygone era that continues to ‘haunt’ the present. This reminds us that our landscapes are not just physical spaces but are imbued with memories and spirits of those who came before us, transforming familiar landscapes into a stage for spectral apparitions and subconscious wanderings.’

Charlotte Keates: Sound Bridges

A ‘sound bridge’ within film references the audio that is used in a succeeding scene to flow and overlap into the preceding scene. Often I might jot down words or feelings that I have in the moment when hearing these sounds and these help to inform the next painting. There is a sense of flow, from one film still to the next, yet they are independent separate scenes - often used within a film to ground a story or give it context.
Traces of objects or symbolism are often mimicked and repeated within each scene or space and I like to consider this within the paintings I’m making for the show.

‘The paintings in this show are inspired by a constantly growing collection of film and television ‘stills’. They are often the connecting scenes, the ‘mise-en-scène’ that create a setting for the narrative to play out.

Sound bridges are like an echo - something repeated and continuing, that reappears and conjures a new feeling and emotion when paired to a different image (or new scene) in the same way that memory can influence a moment, the remembering of a sound but then hearing it in a current moment - becomes something completely different.’

Yeonsu Ju: Altar; the Carrier closing today

‘For me, painting consists of two main aspects:
1) a ritual of mourning embodied in the act itself, and
2) a way to share an intense longing—to merge with my
lover(s)—through figures and theatrical scenes.’

Last month’s exhibition with Katerina Lukina & Andrei Pokrovskii: Two shoes are not a pair

Through spectral doubles and unsettling mirrored forms, their works evoke themes of multiplication, distortion, and contradiction. Oddities in the body, absorbed twins, and dark omens challenge the idea of unity, and ask instead what it means to stand alone—yet beside another.
