Hi Im looking for picture of Jimmy weir who played in Jimmy Weir was born in Edinburgh in 1864. First club was local club Hibernian, signed in 1886 and then signed for Third Lanark in 1887. Later in September 1887 Weir signed for Everton
Back in the early 60’s when we nearly got relegated we were at home playing rubbish can’t remember against who I was in the enclosure the ball went into the big terrace it but didn’t come back suddenly a guy ran up the passageway with the ball right up to the top and silhouetted against the skyline held the ball and showed it to all corners of the ground then turned round and booted it right into the car park .He received the biggest cheer of the day .what a red face for the Hibs players .He was lifted but not charged in fact Harry Swan supposedly invited him to the directors box for next home game.Does anybody else remember this?
Great afternoon.
This is a photograph of the Hibs team of 1889-1890 and the medal for the Edinburgh International Exhibition of 1890. The medal was awarded to my great grandfather John Quigley (middle second row) His brother James is behind him. Both of them would have played for Campsie Black Watch prior to playing for Hibs. Does anyone have any further information on this team and these particular players? Some years ago I contacted the β€œHibs Museum” about donating the original photograph and this medal but they said they were not interested. So it sits proudly on my living room wall, even though I support another green team.
I've just been reading your web page on Gordon Smith and note an error in the paragraph on 1950's Hibernian jerseys. "Gordon Smith's first League Championship win came when Hibernian won the title in season 1947/48. After again winning the League in 1951/52, Hugh Shaw's Hibs side went on to triumph again the following season before seeing a third successive title elude them in season 1953/54 on account of the goal average system used to separate them from Rangers." I believe Hibs won the title in 1950/51 and the following season and lost the 1952/53 title to Rangers on goal difference.
as i was walking down Cathcart road i bumped in to a total stranger, and he said to me "are you going to see the famous Glasgow Rangers?" so i went along to Hampden Park that day, just to see "the famous Glasgow Rangers" but the boys in Blue lost the cup 3-2 to The Famous Edinburgh Hibees!
