SAL JONES
Pop
Oil on canvas
20cm x 20cm
£250

A small, intimate monochrome work, inspired by a close-up of the late artist Pauline Boty (1938 – 1966).

The image is taken from a cropped documentary film still (‘Pop Goes the Easel’, dir Ken Russell 1962) and is titled after Boty’s famous quote: ‘I am Pop, I am art …..you just didn’t realise’.

(Further info on the subject: Pauline Boty died tragically young at only 28 in order to save her unborn child. Boty was a painter and co-founder of the British Pop Art movement. The 1960’s movement was dominated by men; Boty’s works, which celebrated self-assured femininity and female sexuality, criticised the “man’s world” in which she lived).

In my little tapestry I have used the colours of spring. New growth, shoots making their way skyward out of the soil The darkness of the winter has gone, it’s the time to look forward, to hope and be energised. It’s a difficult time in our world I find solace in nature.

SOLEN COLLET
Groyne
Giclee print of cyanotype collage
40cm x 60cm
£65 (unframed)

A giclee fine art paper print of a cyanotype collage made with an image taken while swimming in the sea at Portobello. From a short series made in summer 2025 exploring communal ways of using the beach.

I swam in the sea most days at least once over 2019 after quitting drinking alcohol. It became a ritualistic and cathartic quiet space. Sometimes with friends but mostly alone, I would go to the same spot each day, listening to music. On a calm day, with the sun glistening on the surface of the water, I felt truly held by the water.

CONGRATULATIONS! ✨

PAPERCUT PUNK
Sleep On The Left Side Keep The Sword Hand Free
Papercut
29.5cm x 21cm
SOLD 🔴

The title of this piece comes from Sleep On The Left Side by Cornershop - a lyric that has always resonated with me. I often sing it to my dog who softly snores, eyes half closed, one ear cocked. Wearily watchful.

Sleep quality is very indicative of how life is going and although right now I am somehow sleeping for previously undreamt of hours, I am guardedly relaxed. Waiting to exhale. Right hand free.

Monotype-caligo ink on Japanese rice paper
21cm x 30cm
£75

Sometimes I feel like everything is too much, I get very sad, very angry, very scared and very very panicked. My skin hurts and I feel like I can’t breathe.

So I go and sit with my little dog and watch the boats ebb and flow. I sit for as long as it takes to feel like I’m breathing deeper and thinking clearer.

The calming space, the vibrant space, part of the whole space, the anatomical anthropological space, the tiny(er) space, and the tiny(er) space’s roof space! ✨

I can’t tag everyone so I’ve tagged no one! If anyone wants an artist’s details from the images please DM me ✨

Yesterday an older man popped in to say that he loves THOS and tells his friends about it because the shows and artworks are different, intelligent, sharp and witty. Of course I good-cried (afterwards) because I don’t know what else to do when people are lovely, and he really made a grey day shine ✨

Edinburgh is well and truly living up to its ‘four seasons in one day’ reputation today - we’ve had the heaviest hail storm to the brightest sun and everything (including hefty gusts) in between. Rapidly changing light is making photos difficult but if you can see beyond the reflection, there is * ✨

*I’ll turn her for proper photos tomorrow - for some reason I put the remote control for the turntable that she sits on in my bag last night. And then left my bag at home this morning.

What a brilliant night! Thank you so so much to everyone who came down to the opening of Waiting to Exhale, the little space and pavement outside was absolutely rammed and it was so lovely to see you all. (Of course I only took two photos but will do some more later) ✨

Huge congratulations to and for their artwork sales (’s piece sold before the show even opened!) ✨

Thank you so much as ever to Dave for running the ‘bar’, to the weather for holding, and to the Co-op for scouring their storeroom for evermore paper cups ✨

Although this show is less tightly themed, every picture (textile…ceramic…sculpture…video…) tells a story and artists will be featured in the usual way throughout the show, which runs until 20 June.

The gallery will be open today between midday - 5pm and as always please check the socials/website for opening hours before visiting✨

Thank you love you.
