Very grateful for this generous donation to Wimbotsham History by Elizabeth Neale. It’s a special painting of the Wimbotsham Lancaster EE118 that crashed in our village in September 1943. Painted by Norfolk artist Roger Clarke from Docking. The crew details and the history are on the reverse.
Elizabeth is the widow of Derek Neale who was 12 years old when the Lancaster came down in his back garden in Tinkers Lane. The background shows the former RAF Warboys, as it was in 1943, when EE118 flew off with 10 other Lancasters heading to Bochum, Germany. EE118 was the only plane to crash. On the bottom of the painting are English and German coins from 1943.
We just need somewhere to hang this wonderful painting where everyone can view it.
