~ We are delighted to announce the first of our creative workshops with a brand new event - celebrating spring’s awakening with an Introduction to Nature Journalling by Surrey Art School. ~

Join Surrey Art School founder Ellie and Sculpture Garden curator Vikki on a gentle guided walk through the Sculpture Garden, where we’ll tune into our surroundings using mindful observation techniques.

We’ll be looking for ‘signs of spring’ in the gardens and exploring simple recording techniques to gather visual information for our Nature Journals. Returning to the gallery-come-studio for tea and cake, Ellie will teach you how to set up your Nature Journal (provided) - bringing examples of her own journals to inspire you - and we’ll use our remaining time to jot down notes as well as to sketch and paint some of the plants / places we discovered on our walk.

*Saturday 1st March 2025*
- yes, before we open for the 2025 season!

Tickets will be live next week, launching first through our newsletter so don’t forget to sign up (link in our profile) if you’d like to snap them up.

~ Call for Submissions ~

We are searching for a striking, large-scale suspended installation or sculpture to grace the space beneath the sprawling canopy of a majestic horse chestnut tree at the heart of our Sculpture Garden. For 2025, we’re seeking something entirely fresh and awe-inspiring—an exceptional piece that will captivate visitors and elevate this iconic space to new heights.

Blurring the lines between art and nature, the immaculately mirror-polished planes and edges of ‘Cut Cube Column’ by Will Nash capture and flip the ever changing colours of the Sculpture Garden. Fiery leaves and bare branches are caught in isolation against the sky; viewers find themselves looking down and looking up simultaneously.

We have enjoyed seeing this piece change through the seasons - and as we creep towards the quietness of winter, we cannot wait to see how this dramatic form rises through the harshest weather of the year. Who else is itching to see this in the snow?

As we welcome November and the start of winter, the autumn colours are just about hanging on for us to enjoy as we deinstall some of this year’s collection and make way for next year’s show.

The backdrop of acers and American oak set off the almost glowing work of , and dancing in the background is ’s captivating sculpture. At this time of year it’s hard not to be distracted by the fabulous autumn colours - nature’s final hurrah before slowly slipping into winter’s slumber.

Never fear - we have plans afoot for a few special events over the winter, so keep an eye on our socials (and your inbox if you’ve signed up to our newsletter!)

We are thrilled to introduce Celia Macpherson as one of our new artists for the 2024 season.

work bridges history, culture, and the timeless art of ceramics. Her journey began in London with evening pottery classes, but her passion for ceramics truly ignited in Kenya, where she built her first studio – a round, mud-walled hut – and learned traditional hand-building and firing techniques from local potters.

Born and raised in Cyprus, with its rich pottery traditions, Celia draws inspiration from ancient Cypriot sgraffito, Kenyan coiling methods, and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. Her work reflects her life across three continents and extensive travels, elegantly blending global influences with a timeless simplicity.

We are proud to showcase Celia Macpherson’s exceptional work in our Indoor Gallery, where ancient traditions meet contemporary design.

A journey through our archives as we celebrate our 40th birthday! 🎂

In the early to mid 1990s, The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden proudly showcased the work of a then-emerging talent, Sophie Ryder. Now a globally recognised artist, studied Combined Arts at the Royal Academy of Arts, where her journey into the world of sculpture began under the guidance of Sir Hugh Casson.

Sophie’s creations are a blend of the mystical and the imaginative, with creatures and hybrid beings fashioned from sawdust, wet plaster, old machine parts, and more. Her most famous work, the Lady Hare, serves as a fascinating counterpart to the Minotaur of Ancient Greek mythology. Known for her large-scale sculptures, Sophie embraces the creative challenges that come with working ‘big.’

Her commitment to her craft is evident in the very tips of her fingers, worn smooth by the materials she works with. Yet, her infectious laughter and boundless ‘joie de vivre’ continue to inspire all who meet her.

We are honoured to have been part of Sophie Ryder’s incredible journey, and to have witnessed the early stages of her ascent to international prominence. 🐰✨

~ Summer Holidays Special ~

August is a special month as we will be opening on Wednesday afternoons for our youngest visitors to enjoy the Sculpture Garden.

We know what a huge impact experiencing art can have at a young age, and what better way than a gentle introduction to sculpture surrounded by nature. Our hosted school visits are always popular with students, so we are delighted to extend the opportunity of inspiration to children through the Summer Holidays.
Our standard open days are for guests aged 12 + years, but on Wednesdays during the Summer Holidays families and caregivers with children of any age are invited to experience the harmony of art in nature.

There will be another exciting announcement for Wednesdays coming very soon…Watch this space!
