An exciting opportunity to work with artist Radha Patel to explore future language through interplanetary narratives and making/sculpting creatures with clay.

The workshop is open to anyone 15+ who is interested in intergalactic lore and sharing their hopes for the future

The workshop can be booked via the link in bio.

Following the workshop Radha Patel will deliver an artist talk 3-4pm.

Radha is a Welsh writer, reviewer and artist whose work intersects across colonialism, nature, religion and the future.

In 2019, she was selected for g39’s UNITe programme where she developed ‘Notes From Aarti’s Diary, telling the story of people of colour who became trapped inside a spaceship and explored life without of white-supremacy, ‘after a surge activated the vessel and sent them flying throughout the cosmos, until they landed on the Planet Kelvin’. ‘Finding Aarti’ is a follow up film where the original protagonist’s sister travels the galaxy in search of her sibling, exploring her relationship with land and other beings, and figuring out rituals to sustain these relationships along the way.
The language here is ‘an experiment in healing’ – a process explored by our original protagonists to help them find the words to describe and navigate their new freedom.

On our last day of the exhibition we’re pleased to ntroduce Megan Bloomfield, our final artist…

Playfully subverting our expectations of household furniture and objects, Megan Bloomfield uses tufting techniques to mimic domestic surfaces in wool. By presenting us with objects that no longer function as what they represent, she reflects on her own identity as a female practitioner within a contemporary art context. She questions notions of value around craft and femininity in a gallery setting, inviting us into new encounters with familiar items that appear as if from another world.

Megan Bloomfield is originally from Cwmbran and now lives and works in Cardiff, having studied for her master’s degree at Cardiff School of Art and Design in 2022/23. bloom

Wrth wyrdroi ein disgwyliadau o ddodrefn a gwrthrychau’r tŷ yn chwareus, mae Megan Bloomfield yn defnyddio technegau thwffio i ddynwared arwynebau domestig mewn gwlân. Trwy gyflwyno gwrthrychau i ni nad ydynt bellach yn gweithredu fel yr hyn y maent yn ei gynrychioli, mae'n myfyrio ar ei hunaniaeth ei hun fel ymarferydd benywaidd o fewn cyd-destun celf gyfoes. Mae hi’n cwestiynu syniadau o werth am grefft a benyweidd-dra mewn oriel, ac yn ein gwahodd i gyfarfyddiadau newydd ag eitemau cyfarwydd sy’n ymddangos fel pe bai o fyd arall.

Daw Megan Bloomfield yn wreiddiol o Gwmbrân ac mae bellach yn byw ac yn gweithio yng Nghaerdydd, ar ôl astudio am ei gradd meistr yn Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Caerdydd yn 2022/23.bloom

Introducing our next artist Sarah
Grounds.

Sarah Grounds' poignant photographs reflect on rural existence and transcend her own personal experience to communicate feelings of isolation and freedom. The Links Project, of which the photograph exhibited is a part, incorporates installation, still image and performance, challenging and celebrating the links we have with everything and everyone around us.

Sarah Grounds grew up in Bradford and is now based on an eco-farm in South-West Wales. She studied a BA in Documentary Photography and is now studying for her Masters at Swansea College of Art.

Mae ffotograffau teimladwy Sarah Ground yn myfyrio ar fodolaeth wledig ac yn mynd y tu hwnt i'w phrofiad personol ei hun i gyfleu teimladau o unigwydd a rhyddid. Mae The Links Project, y mae'r ffotograff a arddangosir yn rhan ohono, yn ymgorffori gosodiad, delwedd lonydd a pherfformiad, gan herio a dathlu'r cysylitiadau sydd gennym gyda phopeth a phawb o'n cwmpas.

Magwyd Sarah Grounds n Bradford ac mae bellach wedi'i lleoli ar eco-fferm yn ne-orllewin Cymru. Astudiodd BA mewn Ffotograffiaeth Ddogfennol ac mae bellach yn astudio ar gyfer ei gradd Meistr yng Swansea College of Art.

Introducing Ryan Saunders who will be delivering the Wandering/Wondering workshop this weekend (link in bio).

Ryan Saunders takes a semi-forensic approach to recording areas of the landscape surrounding Wrexham. He often collects fragments and objects found on walks and site-visits, which gain new meanings and elevated value as part of carefully curated and archived collections. His practice spans found objects, photography, text, and workshops. This multi-disciplinary approach informs a broad ‘excavation’ of place and addresses the significance of Wrexham’s history and industrial past.

Born in Birmingham and a recent graduate from Wrexham Glyndŵr University, Ryan Saunders works as an artist and curator near Wrexham. saunders_

Mae Ryan Saunders yn defnyddio dull lled-fforensig o gofnodi ardaloedd o'r dirwedd o amgylch Wrecsam. Yn aml, mae’n casglu darnau a gwrthrychau a geir ar deithiau cerdded ac ymweliadau safle, sy’n ennill ystyron newydd a gwerth uchel fel rhan o gasgliadau sydd wedi’u curadu a’u harchifo’n ofalus. Mae ei ymarfer yn rhychwantu gwrthrychau a ddarganfuwyd, ffotograffiaeth, testun, a gweithdai. Mae’r dull amlddisgyblaethol hwn yn llywio ‘cloddiad’ eang o le ac yn mynd i’r afael ag arwyddocâd hanes a gorffennol diwydiannol Wrecsam.

Yn enedigol o Birmingham ac wedi graddio’n ddiweddar o Brifysgol Glyndŵr Wrecsam, mae Ryan Saunders yn gweithio fel artist a churadur ger Wrecsam.saunders_

Introducing Harri Hughes…

Harri Hughes’s innovative body of work is largely based on creating autonomous machines that disrupt the sensory and haptic relationship between maker and material, throwing into question notions of authorship and authenticity. In the work on display, he has explored ways of mimicking the process of throwing clay using machine technologies and finds creative expression in the diverse and endless possibilities of this process.
Harri Hughes is from Dolgellau and studied for a bachelor’s degree at Cardiff School of Art and Design on the Designer/Maker course, graduating in 2022.

Introducing participating artist Jonathan Retallick…

Jonathan Retallick makes paintings that bring material form to an experiential understanding of the landscape, capturing the ethereal and fleeting impressions of light and shadow with his skilled use of oil paint. His work sits between abstraction and photographic hyperrealism and conjures a mesmeric, intimate, and otherworldly impression of the surrounding landscape.

Born in Anglesey, Jonathan Retallick studied for a bachelor’s degree at Aberystwyth School of Art, graduating in 2020. He currently works as an artist in Anglesey, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape.

Mae Jonathan Retallick yn gwneud paentiadau sy’n dod â ffurf ddeunydd i ddealltwriaeth brofiadol o’r dirwedd, gan ddal yr argraffiadau ethereal a di-dor o olau a chysgod gyda’i ddefnydd medrus o baent olew. Mae ei waith yn gorwedd rhwng haniaethol a hyperrealaeth ffotograffig ac yn creu argraff fesmerig, agos-atoch ac arallfydol o'r dirwedd o'i amgylch.

Yn enedigol o Ynys Môn, astudiodd Jonathan Retallick am radd baglor yn Ysgol Gelf Aberystwyth, gan raddio yn 2020. Ar hyn o bryd mae’n gweithio fel artist yn Ynys Môn, gan dynnu ysbrydoliaeth o’r dirwedd o’i amgylch.

Introducing Seren Ambrose-Ellis…

Seren Ambrose-Ellis translates palimpsests of illegible graffiti and mark-making from the built environment into layered and evocative paintings and installations. The formal construction of her paintings is also influenced by digital aesthetics which is echoed in her video piece: the work operates between screen, wall, and canvas, each surface informing the other to convey a mediated and multi-layered view of Wrexham’s urban landscape.

Having grown up in Wrexham and studied for her master’s degree at Wrexham Glyndŵr University, graduating in 2023, Seren Ambrose Ellis grounds her painterly explorations in the urban environment.

///

Mae Seren Ambrose-Ellis yn trosi palimpsestau o graffiti annarllenadwy a gwneud marciau o'r amgylchedd adeiledig yn baentiadau a gosodiadau haenog ac atgofus. Mae adeiladwaith ffurfiol ei phaentiadau hefyd yn cael ei ddylanwadu gan estheteg ddigidol a adleisir yn ei darn fideo: mae’r gwaith yn gweithredu rhwng sgrin, wal a chynfas, gyda’r naill arwyneb a’r llall yn hysbysu’r llall i gyfleu golygfa gyfryngol ac aml-haenog o dirwedd drefol Wrecsam.

Ar ôl cael ei magu yn Wrecsam ac astudio am ei gradd meistr ym Mhrifysgol Glyndŵr Wrecsam, gan raddio yn 2023, mae Seren Ambrose Ellis yn rhoi ei harchwiliadau peintiwr ar waith yn yr amgylchedd trefol.

Introducing Ruth Peterson…

Ruth Petersen’s woven ceramic installation beckons us to consider the fragility and injustices of the socio-economic order manifested in poorly built housing, specifically high-rise housing. Her piece, Utopia: Dystopia 774, translates the number of house fires in high rise housing in 2021 into delicately constructed woven ceramic pieces that mark these often-catastrophic events. Dispersed amongst these ceramic pieces are 72 red enamel squares, which signify the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.

Ruth Petersen grew up in Pembrokeshire and studied for her bachelor’s degree in textiles at Carmarthen School of Art and went on to do a master’s degree at Swansea School of Art UWTSD, graduating in 2023.

Mae gosodiad cerameg wedi’i wehyddu gan Ruth Petersen yn ein galw i ystyried breuder ac anghyfiawnder y drefn economaidd-gymdeithasol a amlygir mewn tai sydd wedi’u hadeiladu’n wael, yn benodol tai aml-lawr. Mae ei darn, Utopia: Dystopia 774, yn trosi nifer y tanau mewn tai mewn tai aml-lawr yn 2021 yn ddarnau ceramig wedi'u gwehyddu wedi'u hadeiladu'n ofalus sy'n nodi'r digwyddiadau hyn sy'n aml yn drychinebus. Wedi'u gwasgaru ymhlith y darnau ceramig hyn mae 72 o sgwariau enamel coch, sy'n dynodi dioddefwyr tân Tŵr Grenfell yn 2017.
