I am getting in touch to see if any of your members or local archives might have a record of my Papa, who was a miner in the area.
His name was James Brown, better known to everyone as "Budgie". He lived in Belmont, Ayr, but worked at Killoch Colliery up until the mines closed in 1987.
He spent most of his time working at the Killoch coal washer.
Our family doesn't have his old pit tokens, pay slips, or union cards, so we don't know his official check number.
I am trying to track down any group photos of the washery crews, final-shift photographs from 1987, or local union/lodge logs where his name or number might be recorded.
If any of your members remember "Budgie" commuting out from Ayr, or if you have any Killoch wage books or closure records from the late 80s that I could look into, I would be incredibly grateful for your help.

Tomorrow we say farewell to our dear friend Anne Lawrence who passed away recently. She was the welcoming face at our meetings along with Alex and a committee member for many years. The funeral is at 11 in the old church and at Masonhill at 12. RIP.
