Happy Friday! 🔧
We've had very exciting couple of days in the workshop! 🚋

There’s been plenty happening behind the scenes at the National Tramway Museum, where our team has been working on Access Tram 2 – Blackpool 645 – and we’re delighted to say that it has taken a very important step forward!

The team had the tram’s electrical systems powered up for testing, including the equipment which provides power to the tram and charges its batteries. We also tested the compressor and air systems, with some great results – although, as is often the way with a 40-year-old tram, there were a few leaks and minor problems to sort out! 😅

The next challenge was the tram’s electronic control system. This proved a little more complicated than expected, with some differences between the equipment fitted to 645 and the spare parts available to us. After a bit of detective work from Peter with the original drawings, the team identified the problem and made the necessary changes. ⚡
Further testing uncovered a few more faults and some rather interesting repairs in the south cab – all of which were corrected.

And then came the moment we’ve been waiting for…
Blackpool 645 moved under its own power for the first time in 15 years! 🎉🚋

For now, this was just a short movement on Road 2 inside the workshop, but this is a major milestone for Access Tram 2 and a huge achievement for everyone who has worked so hard to get it this far.

The tram is moving again. The journey continues. 💙

After a very serious teddy bear meeting, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone this weekend’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic. ☔🐻

The bears made the important decision that, after watching the weather very closely, they decided it's not really picnic weather at all and they really don’t like the rain on their fur 😢

With two whole days of setting up for the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, they’d be spending four days sitting out in the rain… and quite frankly, they’ve decided that’s no fun at all! 🥺🌧️

But don’t worry – the bears aren’t going into hibernation just yet! They’re hoping to come back for their picnic on:

📅 Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 October 2026 🧸🎉

The National Tramway Museum will still be open as usual this Bank Holiday weekend, so you can still ride the (covered!) trams, explore the museum’s exhibition hall and assembly room, and enjoy the Red Lion Pub and Tram Stop Cafe to make the most of the long weekend. 🚋💙

The bears will be safely tucked away somewhere dry, planning for their next big day out! 👀🐻

Thank you for understanding – and fingers crossed for a much drier teddy bear picnic in October! 💕🧸

See you soon! 🚋☀️
