Our Summer Exhibition is once again sponsored by Magpie training and will feature The Sheila Mackie Memorial Awards.

It's open to artists from all genres and mediums and applications are open from now till Tuesday 14th July.

The exhibition itself will run from Monday 27th July until Saturday 8th August covering both exhibition spaces in our building and we are so excited to see what art is on show this year.

Once again there will be prizes from Magpie Training with categories still to be announced.

Our next community cinema screening is in conjunction with Redhills Durham and is the brand new Lonely Tower Film & Media feature length documentary "Defiant: County Durham, The Miners' Strike and its Legacy" on Friday July 31st at 7pm - doors open from 6.30pm.

A documentary film from Lonely Tower Film & Media that captures the in depth story of Durham's part in the 1984/ 85 Miners' Strike, including the devastation wrought on our pit communities following the final colliery closures.

Focusing on local voices and the testimony of those that were there, Defiant features both the situation within the county, and how wider events (including the Battle of Orgreave) created shock waves on our streets.

It is a story of community, struggle, and a defiant pride that still defines County Durham.

❤️We were recently delighted to find out we have been nominated for Gallery of The Year in the My Local Awards - thank you so much to whoever nominated us, it means the world to us a team of volunteers. ❤️

Our centre is a community driven arts and heritage centre which we all love running. From exhibitions, live music, comedy to being Consett's small community theatre space we are very proud of where we have come in the past five years. Opening Tuesday

We are commemorating the centenary of The General Strike of 2026 by holding the "100 Years of Workers' Struggle" Exhibition.

This half term exhibition is totally free to come in and look around. There will also be interactive art activities for the kids.

Opening times:

👉Tuesday: 26th May 11am-3pm & 6.30pm-8pm

👉Thursday: 11am-2pm & 5pm-7pm

OPEN CALL for artists REMINDER

We are now taking applications for submissions to our next art exhibition entitled The Art of Protest which will be running at our town centre venue in Consett from Monday May 25th until Saturday May 30th alongside a heritage exhibition looking back at 100 years since the 1926 General Strike.

Art as activism has always been an essential part of the workers movement and we hope to celebrate this as part of the exhibition.
