Roll up.., Roll up! This is a call to any Portlanders (past and present) or people with a personal connection to The Sacred Isle.

Do you have something interesting to share about our weird and wonderful island? We want to hear peoples’ experiences, tall tales, folk stories, poems, theories, songs, family traditions and superstitions about our rocky home and the seas and landscape that surround it. From the mundane and comical to the uncanny and horrible; your words could be used as part of a one-off celebration exploring the soul and spirit of Portland on Fri 11th September during the b-side festival of 2026.

This is not necessarily a ‘talent show’ but an opportunity for people to share funny, frightening, odd and audacious material that either occurred or didn’t occur. It must however contain an essense or theme of The Isle of Portland. Some content may not make the final cut; but please be assured that it will not be due to ‘quality control’, but how your entry sits alongside other works included in the event.
Do you have an idea but are too shy to stand up in front of a room full of people? No problem. We have a fleet of willing performers who will happily deliver your proposal should it be chosen for the event itself.
Do you love performing but don’t have an idea of your own? Then put yourself forward to meet the event curator and potentially join our squad of speakers.

Submit stories, ideas and written pieces to [email protected].

Entries will need to be submitted by Sunday 7th June for review.

Portland is the word… Rock up and be heard!!

Artist: Pryddywyrd

https://axisweb.org/artist/julianclaxton

Description:“Pryddywyrd” is an ongoing project by Julian Claxton started in 2023. Firmly based in its particular locale on the Mendip Plateau, the work moves between representation of objects, animals and events to the making of objects, working within tropes of folk, gothic and folk horror. The work is mainly seen through monochrome photographs posted on the Pryddywyrd Instagram account. These exist in the grey zone, approaching dusk with mist and fog ever present.

And by the power of the earth, air, fire and water, we call on the power of the Nanny Diements to HEX all ambitions to construct an incinerator on Portland.
