๐Ÿ‹ An icon, reimagined. ๐Ÿ‹

Violet eyes. Hollywood glamour. A life that was every bit as dramatic as the films she starred in. Elizabeth Taylor remains one of the most recognisable and celebrated faces of the silver screen โ€” but there was far more to her than her legendary beauty.

A few facts about Elizabeth Taylor you might not knowโ€ฆ

๐ŸŽฌ She began her acting career as a child and became one of Hollywoodโ€™s biggest stars, with unforgettable roles in films including Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Whoโ€™s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

๐Ÿ’Ž She was famous for her extraordinary jewellery collection โ€” including the legendary 33-carat Krupp Diamond and the 50-carat La Peregrina pearl.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Her violet eyes became one of her most distinctive features, adding to the mystique surrounding her unmistakable image.

โค๏ธ Beyond Hollywood, Elizabeth was a pioneering activist. Following the death of her close friend Rock Hudson, she became one of the most prominent celebrity advocates for HIV/AIDS awareness and founded the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991.

And then there was the glamour. From her extraordinary jewellery and iconic fashion to her unforgettable performances, Elizabeth Taylor became much more than a movie star โ€” she became a cultural icon whose image continues to inspire artists, designers and photographers today.

This striking new portrait by Pete Humphreys, currently on display in our Chiswick Gallery, captures that enduring sense of cinematic glamour. Inspired by his love of film and the Impressionists, Pete uses expressive brushwork to create portraits that feel both instantly recognisable and wonderfully alive.

Look closely and the image dissolves into a world of energetic marks and painterly detail โ€” a fitting interpretation of a woman who was never simply one thing.

Elizabeth Taylor: unforgettable then, unforgettable now. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ‹ An icon, reimagined ๐Ÿ‹

Few faces have had quite the cultural impact of Audrey Hepburn. From her unforgettable film roles to her effortlessly elegant style, Audrey has remained an enduring symbol of glamour, sophistication and timeless beauty โ€” and her influence continues to inspire artists today.

Her instantly recognisable image has become a recurring subject within contemporary art, where artists reinterpret her through bold colour, pop art, street art and mixed media, transforming a familiar icon into something fresh and unexpected.

This striking portrait by Srinjoy, brings Audrey into the contemporary art world, combining her classic Hollywood allure with vibrant colour and expressive paintwork. The result? A modern take on an image we all know, proving that some icons never go out of style.

What better way to celebrate one of the most recognisable faces in popular culture?
