Launched in 2014, Hardwick Gallery rapidly became a keystone organisation in the regional contemporary arts ecology, cross-pollinating the Art School with grassroots activity and international presentations. As its organiser, it has been a huge privilege to create and deliver the gallery programme, study groups, field trips, workshops, residencies, discussions, alongside an incredible catalogue of artists, brilliant colleagues and curious students. Special thanks to the gallery’s unfailingly generous audiences, from near and far, for their time.
The University of Gloucestershire’s statement reads: “We are bidding a fond farewell to Hardwick Gallery following the vacation of the Hardwick site. Our ambition is that new gallery spaces and a sculpture park at Park Campus will build on the success of Hardwick Gallery, which has played a central role in the University’s cultural vision over the past 11 years. Hardwick Gallery hosted over 100 exhibitions, events and residencies, and co-ordinated numerous conferences and symposia. In doing so, it supported both artistic research and practice and provided a focal point for collaboration between the University community and local and international artists.
While this is undoubtedly the end of an era, we are excited about the next chapter which gives us opportunities to build on all that has been achieved. As such, we look forward to welcoming you to our new spaces when they open to the public in the autumn.”
The Fine Art and Photography departments that were also based at Hardwick have joined other creative courses at Park Campus to form the Creative Campus.
