Step inside the Toll House & see conservation in action.

We are delighted that the High Wycombe Toll House is now open to visitors. After several years of fundraising and conservation work, replacing brickwork, retiling the roof and repairing window frames, visitors to Chiltern Open Air Museum can once again step into the front room of this unique building.

2026 marks 200 years since the Toll House was built in High Wycombe and nearly 50 years since COAM rescued it from demolition.

Visitors can see the renovation work it action with different stages of the traditional wall covering on display.

Standing in the front room it's hard to believe that such a small house would have been home to an entire family!

50 Years of COAM - 1999 🎉

In 1999 we restored and unveiled the two Duty Coal Posts at the top and bottom of site. These date from 1862 and sat either side of Wraysbury River near Slough, marking where anyone entering London with fuel would have to pay ‘the London Coal and Wine Duty’.

Do you know a teenager who is keen to learn to drive early or would like to pursue a career in the classic or heritage car sector?

Please spread the word that there are some great exhibitors at the Museum this Sunday for young people interested in cars. StarterMotor and the Under 17 Car Club will both be exhibiting at our Motors and Music Father's Day event with the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club and Hemley Hillbillies.
