It was a wonderful event last night in , creating a safe space for artists to open up and share their resilient journeys, as well as the challenges they face in balancing artistic practice and education.

A big thank you to , , and for hosting such an insightful conversation with .dmk.dmk.dmk.dmk and .

The discussion shed light on the realities of being an artist-educator, the impact of fellowships like the Freelands Studio Fellowship, and the importance of fostering creative exchange within universities. An evening filled with meaningful dialogue, shared experiences, and a strong sense of community.

Looking forward to more! 🎨✨

Wonderful news! ✨

Lubaina Himid , Zanzibar-born British artist and curator, and a pioneer of the Black British art movement, has been selected to represent the UK at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. .art.biennale

Renowned for her work on race, identity, and historical erasure, Himid has dedicated her career to reclaiming overlooked narratives and amplifying marginalized African voices. She made history in 2017 as the first Black woman and the oldest recipient of the Turner Prize and now follows in the footsteps of Sonia Boyce, becoming only the second Black woman to represent the UK at the Biennale.

Notable Works:
Le Rodeur Series (2016) – Explores the lasting trauma of the transatlantic slave trade.
Naming the Money (2004) – A striking installation of 100 life-size figures representing Black individuals in 18th-century Europe, reclaiming their erased identities.

Before Venice: Upcoming Exhibition
Ahead of the Biennale, Himid is curating “Connecting Thin Black Lines 1985-2025” (June 24 – Sept 7, 2025) at ICA London . The show revisits her groundbreaking 1985 exhibition of young Black and Asian women artists, now established figures in contemporary art. Featuring fresh commissions and works spanning four decades, this exhibition will highlight the continued evolution of their contributions.

Exciting times ahead as Himid prepares to bring her vision to Venice 2026! Stay tuned for more updates. 🔥
