It was a wonderful event last night in , creating a safe space for artists to open up and share their resilient journeys, as well as the challenges they face in balancing artistic practice and education.

A big thank you to , , and for hosting such an insightful conversation with .dmk.dmk.dmk.dmk and .

The discussion shed light on the realities of being an artist-educator, the impact of fellowships like the Freelands Studio Fellowship, and the importance of fostering creative exchange within universities. An evening filled with meaningful dialogue, shared experiences, and a strong sense of community.

Looking forward to more! 🎹✹

Wonderful news! ✹

Lubaina Himid , Zanzibar-born British artist and curator, and a pioneer of the Black British art movement, has been selected to represent the UK at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. .art.biennale

Renowned for her work on race, identity, and historical erasure, Himid has dedicated her career to reclaiming overlooked narratives and amplifying marginalized African voices. She made history in 2017 as the first Black woman and the oldest recipient of the Turner Prize and now follows in the footsteps of Sonia Boyce, becoming only the second Black woman to represent the UK at the Biennale.

Notable Works:
Le Rodeur Series (2016) – Explores the lasting trauma of the transatlantic slave trade.‹Naming the Money (2004) – A striking installation of 100 life-size figures representing Black individuals in 18th-century Europe, reclaiming their erased identities.

Before Venice: Upcoming Exhibition
Ahead of the Biennale, Himid is curating “Connecting Thin Black Lines 1985-2025” (June 24 – Sept 7, 2025) at ICA London . The show revisits her groundbreaking 1985 exhibition of young Black and Asian women artists, now established figures in contemporary art. Featuring fresh commissions and works spanning four decades, this exhibition will highlight the continued evolution of their contributions.

Exciting times ahead as Himid prepares to bring her vision to Venice 2026! Stay tuned for more updates. đŸ”„

“Uncensored”
13 Sep -30 Nov

Don’t miss it!

This is the final stop in AdeY’s Uncensored world tour which has been exhibited in New York (Clamp), Los Angeles (Galerie XII), London (The Little Black Gallery), Stockholm (Fotografiska), Oslo (Vasi Souza), and Falsterbo Photo Art Museum in Sweden.

“I began taking photographs when I worked as a professional dancer and felt the need to erase what I had done before to be taken seriously. People doubt you when you change art forms. I also do not want people to focus on my background but rather my body of work”, says AdeY.

We are deeply sad to learn that Rebecca Horn passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. A leading figure of her generation, Rebecca Horn began working in the late 1960s, creating a diverse body of work encompassing performances, films, sculptures, spatial installations, drawings, and photographs.

Horn’s art was characterized by the remarkable precision with which she crafted the physical and technical elements of her pieces, each thoughtfully staged within a particular space. Her early performances featured machine-like body extensions, masks, and feathered objects, delving into the interplay between body and space. These paved the way for her renowned kinetic sculptures and large-scale, site-specific installations, infused with political and historical meaning. Her dynamic sculptures—incorporating violins, suitcases, batons, ladders, pianos, feather fans, and metronomes—transcended their material forms to become evolving metaphors that invoked mythical, historical, literary, and spiritual imagery.

Thank you Hannah ! Such a stunning collection!đŸ„‚

“Artists” features over 150 portraits of artists in their studios from all over the UK. Taken over the past few years from 2020 to 2023, it serves as the definitive guide to the UK art scene today. Born from unexpected circumstances, the project emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic when Brynley Odu Davies’s music photography career came to a halt. Taking daily walks in South London, he befriended local artists and started capturing their portraits in his studio. This spontaneous endeavour grew into a remarkable project as Brynley’s Instagram posts gained attention, leading to an extensive body of work. His portraits are intimate and natural and as real as possible, often taken in natural light with little to no editing.
